We're looking to add a 1 year old golden to our family this month. Basically, if he meets Doggie D and it goes well (next weekend), we're going ahead. Doggie D has never met a dog he didn't like, and this dog lives with 4 or so other goldens, so I don't expect it to not go well.
The dog currently goes by "Pierre." I don't hate that name, but don't love it. It's definitely not "us." By one, I'm guessing he already recognizes sounds in that name, but I'm trying to think if there's something that sounds (to a dog) like Pierre, but is more 'us.' Doggie D is Guinness. When we'd been thinking of getting a puppy we were considering Marcy for a girl or Colden for a boy. Those are two high peaks in the Adirondacks.
You don't need to keep Pierre, but a P name will make it easier for the pup to readjust (if he knows his name). What about Porter? It's a peak in the Adiondacks & a type of beer!
Peloton was originally named Paco and it only took a couple days for him to get it. If we get another dog his/her name is either going to be Echelon or Roubaix (since we're a cycling family, lol).

I like Porter too - the only down side is that I suggested that when one of my coworkers got her puppy (for the same reasons - ADKs + beer) and she went with it. It'd be really weird when we dogsat for each others' dogs

Dogfish head : )
If you decide to leave the P's, I think Kolsch can be a cute name. If he's coming from a rescue I'd ask them how long he's had the name. Our dog was owner surrendered with one name, it was changed to something more adoptable, and then we changed it again. She learned her name in maybe two days.
Looking at a list of Adirondack peaks, I've now changed my vote to Nippletop.
lol. Calvin had such fun with that the day we climbed that peak. (Same goes for Dix, E. Dix, and S. Dix, which we did on the same day. 3 dix in one day! 8-D )
