I run ours monthly. I have a gas oven. It works beautifully. I just wipe up the ash with a damp paper towel, and walla! Done. Never had a problem with the glass.
I have heard you do not want to do self clean if you own birds, as there is a chemical reaction that is toxic to birds. IDK if that is true though.
I did it once after the great eggplant explosion of 2009. I scraped as much as I could off but it was in every possible crevice. Cleaned it all up. Sucked as it was summer and hot but I never would've gotten it clean myself.
I tried it a few months ago but turned it off after 10 minutes because it smelled gross and chemically and I was scared my baby would have a black lung because of it. I ended up just using Easy Off and that worked fine. I'm wondering if it smelled like that because it's a new-ish oven? Maybe it won't smell if I try it again?
I use ours about every 6 months. It works fine, yes there's a slight smell, but it's really not that bad. And it's way easier than trying to scrub the gunk out by hand.
self-cleaning doesn't break the glass but be sure to remove your racks before you run it. I love it, it does an amazing job cleaning. I hope to never have a non-self-cleaning oven again.

I use mine all the time (monthly? Maybe every two months?) but I cook a lot. I always do it before a big feast like Thanksgiving, and then after that, too. One of the things I love about self-cleaning is that if I have a really yucky, stuff-burned-on pan, I toss that in, too (NOTE: DO NOT DO THIS WITH PANS WITH ANY KIND OF FINISH) and they come out like new. I also throw my pizza stones in there probably once a year or so, and they come out looking like they are new out of the box.
I have also put my gas grill grates in there.
The only problem I have ever had with the self-clean is that once I had lined the bottom with aluminum foil because I knew something would spill, and forgot to take that out before running the self-clean, and some of the foil I guess kind of melted and bonded to the floor of the oven. I was able to scrape most of it off, but I don't advise trying to self-clean aluminum foil.
I don't cook much and I try to make sure that nothing falls in the bottom of the oven while cooking. I have used the feature twice in 3.5 years. I just turn it on at night before I go to bed and its sparkling clean in the morning. I live in a 2 story house so I never smell the fumes. I don't have to wipe anything out of the bottom either it’s clean like magic.
I noticed that a lot of people said don’t leave you racks in the oven while using the self-clean feature. I have left my racks in the oven both times and haven’t noticed a problem. What usually happens or what should I look for on my racks?
I run the self cleaner seasonally. The oven will make the kitchen very warm so I run it on a cooler night in the summer. I like to cook and bake so my oven gets a lot of use. Make sure you take everything out of the oven before running the self clean. I ruined a broiler pan by leaving it in the oven.

You guys talked me into trying it. I'm WFH for the day. I just cleaned my oven with baking soda and water a few weeks ago, but couldn't get it to actually wipe clean and gave up after a while. I did the shortest setting for 2 hours. I'll report back with the results.
I just leave a large, flat cookie sheet on the bottom rack of my oven and it catches most everything. It's disgusting, but I don't really care. If I need both racks, I just take it out.
I've actually had the inner glass of the door shatter, but it wasn't during a self cleaning, it was during a normal baking job at 350.
I did see on Pinterest an "easy" way to clean your oven b/c apparently using the self clean option takes "years" off the oven life. Not sure if that's true or not.

Did you have any problem having it changed by the manufacturer?

Nope. We didn't even know the purchased date or have a receipt b/c it had came with the house.
I've only used it a couple times; once when something had spilled inside and the smoke alarm went off every time I used the oven, and one other time when I couldn't get it clean any other way. I don't do it very often because I don't like using it when the dogs are home; Quincy goes to day care, but I don't like to take old Dexter for long excursions if I don't have to.
