DH and I can agree to expose them in the bedrooms, but he wants to keep the carpet in the living room. I have a beautiful vision of the living room with them exposed, but he isn't convinced.
FWIW, we can't seem to keep the carpet super clean no matter what we do, but we also do have two Dds and I babysit, so...
So yay or nay to exposing the hardwoods in the living room? pros? Cons?

i love how hardwood looks- i'd have it exposed anywhere that it was in the house. We have ours exposed in our living/dining room... and one bedroom - the other 2 and hallway have berber - which we don't mind too much - but will likely not last too much longer.
We just started tearing up our carpets so I vote for hardwoods. They are making my house look so much nicer already and we only have the dining room done so far. Carpets are so gross, even worse to me now that I just saw under ours. Barf.
Oh and dh thought we should get new wall to wall in the living room until he saw how nice the wood looks, so maybe that will sell your husband on it too if he can see it in another room.

Hmmm...just maybe. I'll have to get cracking on the bedrooms!

Does anyone in the house have allergies? Carpets hold in allergens. Do you have pets? If so, the carpet probably has all sorts of nastiness in it.
What is his reason for loving it? I can't fathom this. We are househunting for our next house and the first thing I'd do is replace carpet with hardwood. Carpet really disgusts me, but I do like area rugs.
team hardwood with area rugs. maybe once the bedrooms are exposed he'll agree to do the living room. also, it's weird to have wall to wall in the living room and not in the bedrooms.

Also it's a little strange to me that he is OK with wood in the bedrooms and wants carpet in the living room. It seems that most houses I see with carpet do it the opposite way.

Pets, check. Allergies, check. DH is the one worn allergies! I've seen the underside of carpets that had pet "residue" and yes, completely disgusting!
He doesn't really give me a reason, just says he likes at least a little carpet in the house. I would totally do an area rug in the living room over the hardwoods. But that doesn't suit him either.

Ditto this. Whenever there's a mix of hardwood and carpet, it's usually wood in the common rooms, and carpet in the bedrooms.
I would remove all of the carpet. There are zero cons to doing so. It looks better and is easier to maintain.
Why is your DH adamant on carpet in the living room? Find out his reason and you can probably address it. If he thinks it won't be soft enough to play on with the kids, a good quality area rug with a pad underneath is very soft. If it's just what he's used to from growing up, then feel free to ignore him. lol.

That doesn't make any sense! Especially since you're a household with pets and allergies. Weird issues without any given reason don't carry weight. Feel free to ignore. lol.

Yea, maybe he will just come home to hardwoods one day. Lol
We pulled the carpet up in out entire house and refinished the floors. We do have one carpeted room, the family room. That was added on and doesn't have hardwoods underneath. It is so much harder to keep that floor looking nice.
