we go out to eat for Thanksgiving. This year it is at noon and then we return to our house with the extended family (about 20 people) and we host dessert/drinks/football

We eat when the turkey is ready.
It's just DH, our DDs, and myself. I try to time it so we're eating around 12/1PM...we like Thanksgiving "lunch" v. "dinner" for a couple of reasons. First, in general we all prefer a bigger meal earlier in the day then something much lighter for dinner. That's especially true with a bigger, heavier meal like we have on Thanksgiving. Second, we have a family tradition of putting up the Christmas tree after we eat, so the earlier meal means we have plenty of time for that and that I can participate because I'm out of the kitchen.
My ILs do dinner at 2 or so. My mom changes from year to year.
We have started doing thanksgiving at home and inviting both sets of parents, but they all still want to do extended family at their own houses. Fine by us. We will either eat at one before naptime, or around 5 after naptime. I think we may do heavy apps around lunch time, then DH and I can relax with some wine for an hour or so. Then we can have the turkey and everything ready for dinner at 5 or 6.
DH ordered the turkey already from a local farm, I cant wait for that and some sparkling shiraz.
Depends on the family- In my family Thanksgiving DINNER is just that- dinner at 6 pm. DH's family does the whole "dinner" at noon/1:00 thing, despite the fact that people travel 5+ hours to get there. It makes me CRAZY because there's really no good reason for it to be at noon.
This year we'll be enjoying dinner with my family!
(I actually really like celebrating with DH's family, too, but it has always bugged me that we have to get up and leave town by 6:00 am to get there for a noon meal, even though there's no reason to eat so early)
