I have a couple running skirts that i wear occasionally but i am not sure how i feel about them. i do like that they have the shorts underneath to protect from chafing and the skirt hides the skin tight shorts but part of me feels like i probably look ridiculous running in a skirt. what are your thoughts? do you think running skirts are functional and cute or ridiculous?
I love my skirts. They're not my everyday gear, but it's a pretty awesome feeling to haul ass past the majority of runners in a (local) race to finish 1st AG and in the top 10 females OA, wearing a tier of ruffles.
I don't get them (or cycling skirts). They are hotter, and it's just an extra piece of fabric to get in the way, but to each her own. If you like them, wear them.
I love my running skirts. I probably have at least 6. I am finding them to be more comfortable than my normal shorts. I am not quite confident enough to wear compression shorts on their own, so this is a nice compromise for me. I do not find them to be hotter at all, and I don't think the extra fabric causes me any problems. One of the things that I like most about them is how stretchy they are, which I love for stretching before/ after. All of my normal running shorts seem to limit my range of motion a little bit. I've come to not even see them as girly, just comfy. And yes, I've worn them in half and full marathons.
Funny, I'm not at all girly, but I like my skirts. One has the built-in shorts and another does not. The second one I wear over tights in the cold weather because my butt is always extra cold! The skirt offers a second layer of warmth!
I think they look silly, but I don't wear skirts in my everyday life, so it makes sense that I wouldn't wear them running. I don't judge though, unless it is a tutu on an ordinary training run or something.

I don't like them, but I certainly don't judge people that do. I wear skirts quite a bit in my everyday life, but for running I like shorts. My favorite right now are Oiselle roga in fuschia, which are cute and functional (with no extra fabric)

I have one that I wear on casual days during the summer, like for going to the playground with my 2-year old, but I don't wear it for running. It's very comfortable, and I like that it has inner shorts. I think they're very cute, but I prefer to run in shorts.
I like my running skirts quite a bit, they help to camo my remaining though and butt bounce. That said, I prefer to run in longer compression shorts, I find that I can move better in them. They are just... not at all flattering.
I used to be 100% anti running skirt. I bought one a few years ago on sale at a race expo, and wore it to run errands a few times (I have since gained 5-10 lbs and the damn thing doesn't fit) but have never been able to pull the trigger and buy one to actually wear for running. My stance on them has softened somewhat...I just haven't been able to make that jump yet

This. Although I do think they look cute on other people, I don't find them comfortable myself. On a hot, humid day, I really don't need a superfluous piece of fabic on top of my shorts. I always run in spandex shorts and couldn''t care less what people think of my derriere.

I agree about not wanting extra fabric on a hot day, but in the Spring and Fall I wear my skirts a ton.

I suppose as a cyclist I'm used to lycra. I spend 10-15 hours a week in it. No one cares if my rear jiggles or not when I'm on a bike. There are guys and ladies larger than me on a bike in lycra, and I think they look good in it! I say rock whatever you want to wear. Cycling skirts just aren't for me. (although I do see the appeal of wearing them to run errands or play with the kids...)

I just bought one and I like it quite a bit. I love wearing skirts and dresses in general, so wearing a skirt for running wasn't a huge leap. I don't notice the extra fabric and running around in a skirt kind of gives me an extra pep in my step.
I love my running skirts way more than shorts, I used to be in the 'I don't get them camp' until I started wearing them. I don't even notice the extra fabric and just think they look much cuter, but I do understand not everyone is going for fashion when running. I will say I have one that is from LLL that is way more functional for long runs because the shorts don't ride up and another for asics that is better for shorter distance because the shorts do ride up.
I like them to wear when I run outside. I think I would feel a bit weird wearing them to the gym. (That's just me. Wouldn't think anything of it if I saw someone wearing one). I have 3 skirts from Lulu that are super cute but I actually like one I have from skirtsports that just has a brief under it. Sooo much more comfortable then the Lulu skirt shorts.

I like them! I wear them everywhere - exercising, running errands, dropping off at preschool, playing at the playground - multifunctional pieces really fit my life!!!
I have three and really like them. It actually doesn't have anything to do with feeling like I need to disguise anything - I just enjoy feeling cute while I'm running.
The extra layer doesn't add any function, just style (or lack thereof if you prefer!). However, it doesn't bother me unless it's very windy. Hmm...maybe that means I'm not running fast enough?
NMS and I don't want the extra fabric. I hardly wear anything as it is when I run, lol.
same
Co-signed. I don't judge anyone for wearing them, they're just not my thing. I don't want anything extra on me when I'm running. If I want to be cute and girly, I'll get a cute top from LLL or pretty color running shorts. It's all about function.
I like them because A) I think they're cute and they transition easily from playing with the kiddo to going to the store to going out to a run and B) they hide my jiggly butt.
Trust me, I'd LOVE to be able to just rock compression shorts or tights but I get too self-conscious. That being said, I mostly wear Nike Double Up shorts which would probably equally annoy the gals who hate an extra layer

have you guys worn skirts? the skirt part does not feel "extra" because it is so short and light. but it whisks away sweat so its great in the summer. i am also a minimalist when it comes to running clothing (I seriously dont own any running shirts) but I like skirts because its pretty much like wearing briefs. I would get honked at too many times if I wore briefs running down the street. But I can wear my running skirt, and it feels like I am just wearing briefs.
I like those (with briefs) for running but I also like the Target Girls running skirts with the built-in shorts. It's cool to be able to strike a yoga pose or do a cartwheel or sit cross legged on the floor while wearing a skirt and not caring. Plus, they are only $10.

Aren't you wearing capris underneath shorts in your sig pic?
