I am not but my dad and his wife possibly may be. They live in South Carolina. If I understand the news, it seems like North Carolina is more in threat than south.
For their sake, I hope the storm goes out to sea. They are Montana natives that just relocated there and I am not sure if they would know what to do.
I'm near Annapolis so it might make landfall here. I've done nothing to prepare and am thinking I might go spend the night with A so at least we can, uhm, entertain ourselves if we're out of power.
A friend posted a map of the the affected areas, the area with a lot of rain was listed as "people who need to get boats", the area with just some rain is listed as "need to visit the liquor store." The area where it's to hit the hardest was listed as "these people are totally screwed". I'm in the visit the liquor store region.

Im in these people are screwed area
Me too. When Hurrican Irene hit us, I lost power for 6 days, so Im prepared for the worst..to lose power for at least a week again. It sucks, but my bff lives in a major flood zone and Im really worried about her house..Irene destroyed it last time..she had water up to her second floor!

My aunt & uncle have 3 beach houses in Stone Harbor, NJ and she posted on FB that they have madatory evacuation by 4pm tomorrow. They live about 2 hours inland in PA, but I'm still hoping they stay safe!

I had no power for ten days last year during not Irene, but snowmageddon. It sucked. My kids went to their dads because the rat bastard had power, I couch surfed. I'm not gonna lie, there were some fun times, but for the most part, hugely inconvenient. Here they have already closed schools for Monday and Tuesday, but Im still hoping that this is being blown way out of proportion.
In NY they are shutting down trains and buses tonight. Public schools are closed for mon and tues. I'm concerned about a power outage and trees falling...YIKES. I will go to work tomorrow (hospital) and I'm packing a bag just in case I need to stay-at least there are emergency generators there. I'll leave out extra food and water for my kitties. I really hope this is not as bad as they predict.
Our schools as well as the state are shut down for tomorrow with some into Tuesday. They are saying things will start up at noon tomorrow. It's already raining here.
My stupid phone charger cord broke last night so I'm without a phone (didn't charge through the night and now died) which isn't cool to not be able to check on family. I'm hoping the Verizon store will be open tomorrow!
ETA: Blueyes: I can't play with you until I get my phone recharged. *pout*
:N: Lol. Rain hasn't started here yet, just windy. This crap caused my "date" to be cancelled...oh well
I am in Northern Virginia...I procrastinated and didn't start the hunt for water until today - bad idea - shelves were empty. I finally found a case of water at one of several grocery store stops...also got some non-perishable food. Federal Gov is closed in DC tomorrow.
Notatree - I'm in NoVA, too. Surprisingly, the stores weren't too bad today. Tomorrow is a day off for me.... Tuesday most likely as well.
NoVa club! Stores weren't too packed, but the water isles were empty for me...I have to telework Mon and Tues. We'll see if Metro/VRE/Marc are up and running on Wed.
We aren't in the direct hit area, I'm near The Great Lakes area of NY. I'm bad and haven't been watching the news, but last I heard they were saying we should be getting 5" of rain from it.

Oh nooooo! You guys weren't able to do something else?
notatree - I'm thinking I should fill some of my pitchers with water.
Nope, he was helping a friend move a few hours away..since he doesn't have work tomorrow, he decided to stay where he is. The outdoor thing was r/s for Friday evening, so we'll see about that.

I'm in central VA, so I believe we won't get the worst of it. I'm planning on being at BF's for tonight and tomorrow. He has a generator that will power the crucial appliances (fridge, freezer, etc.), and a fireplace, propane burner, and charcoal grill for cooking. So, we should be set. I was told that even if my office closes, which is highly unlikely, we're still expected to take PTO or work from home or make up the hours. So, I'm working today and tomorrow, no matter what the weather. And feeling very jealous of all the teachers bragging about their time off. *grumble grumble*
I am buckled down with my dog ready for this storm. I have water and my pantry has never been so well stocked. I also have a nice flashlight and luckily my bf had batteries I could borrow. So many places were out of water and batteries!!!
I am not too worried but I just wanted to be prepared regardless. I really should have water and food on a regular basis for emergencies so I took this as an opportunity to prepare an emergency kit.
From what I've seen, the rain/tides are the biggest concerns. The wind hasn't been much of a factor - there's nary a branch on the ground outside and most people never lost power. We only got the edge of the storm though - could be different if you're one of the lucky ones bracing for a direct hit.
