Scary gif thread!

The only problem with this thread - and you know that I love it - is that the scare factor for many of these gifs was the build-up in the movie to that point. Anyway:

I have yet to see a movie that is truly "scary" to me. The Strangers movie is close, but not quite. I went through a few "Top 10 scariest" lists and, well, meh. I watched Session 9 - which was supposed to be really scary - and it was lame.

I don't generally watch scary movies, so other than The Ring, I don't know what movies any of these gifs are from. Can someone tell me so I know never to watch any of them?

YES! The first one was very "meh" in the storyline, but I LOVED the visual effects.

Unfortunately the sequel is just awful. Even worse story. The first movie definitely got the tone and atmosphere right, but this one fails at that too. But Kit Harington is in it (Jon Snow)

I think you really have to have seen the movies for this thread to be scary. I assume anything with Japanese people is from the ring?

Jam, I'm not sure about all of them, but the ones with the dudes on the ceiling are from Grave Encounters. H and I just watched a couple of weeks ago. Interesting premise--poor execution.

2nd is an old favorite- Dead Alive (not so much scary as it is just awesome)

I've been going back and forth on whether to see Martyrs because it seems more like torture porn than suspense, and I'm a much bigger fan of the latter.

Why is Dead Alive awesome? I don't think I've even heard of it.

And your siggy is honestly the most horrifying thing in this thread. I could not stop staring at it. The thought of waking up and seeing someone standing over like that is one of my biggest fears.
Besides someone grabbing my feet/ankles while I step out of bed.

Here's that scene if you are interested. This is actually a crappy quality preview of the film, but that scene is at the very beginning.

FWIW, the preview doesn't do the film justice at all. Frankly it's cheesy. In reality, that whole movie is an extended exercise in creepy suspense genius, and I think it's the pinnacle of the entire J-horror genre.
