"Hurricane Sandy is moving quickly toward southern New Jersey and is expected to make landfall early this evening with life-threatening storm surge and hurricane-force winds.
At 5 p.m., Sandy had maximum sustained winds of 90 mph and was moving west-northwest at 28 mph, the National Hurricane Center reports. The storm is centered about 30 miles east-southeast of Cape May, New Jersey, and 40 miles south of Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Tropical-storm-force winds are already being felt from North Carolina to New England.
More than 765,000 power outages have already been reported – most of them in New Jersey and New York.
It's not just the rain and wind that's causing problems. Forecasters expect there could be up to 2 feet of snow tied to this "superstorm." It is already snowing in parts of the Appalachian Mountains. West Virginia has already declared a state of emergency, while North Carolina Gov. Beverly Purdue h as declared a state of emergency for 24 counties in the western part of her state due to snow."
765,000?? Jeez you guys. I hope everyone stays safe. I'm praying for all of you. I texted LLL and Cleo but haven't heard back yet.

My boss said "it's not even that bad!" and she's in NY, lol!!!!
Yeah. It's pretty shit-your-pants worthy. It's starting to pick up here and we aren't even close to the worst of it (nor will we get the worst, I think, compared to NY/NJ) so I'm pretty nervous.
I'm in southwestern CT and I am getting steady updates on FB of people's power going out already. It's rainy and quite windy here... But it hasn't even gotten CLOSE to us yet.

We lost power here in the Boston area for about a half hour, but it's back now. It's pretty windy, but surprisingly little rain (comparatively speaking, of course).

Stay safe everyone! My Aunt and Uncle live in Fairfield, CT a few blocks from the beach and were given mandatory evacuation orders...they stayed put like idiots. I was in Hurricane Ike in 2008, it's scary!

Sue Sue - I live in the Boston area and we're doing okay here. We're getting a lot of wind and some power outages, but as long as he's staying put he's fine.
I'm in NYC in a hospital and we are okay, Anything in Zone A has been evacuated already & they are closing bridges as of 7pm, also MTA cut train/bus/subway service and I think the other train lines have followed. If you are on the road after 4pm in my mom's town, they are taking you to a shelter or arresting you for endangering the public. Also I think schools been cancelled today and tomorrow as far as I know. My mom and sister in NJ both still have power, part of a tree snapped and hit the building, but came INCHES from hitting my sister's bedroom window.
It's believed to be the worst for the next 4-6 hours. So from 6pm-midnight, especially since high tide is around 8pm here and we have a full moon tonight, with the eye of the storm hitting land VERY soon.

Im in philadelphia. My windows are rattling. The door is puffing in and out. Lucy's playhouse was lifted up in the air and thrown down on its side. Still have power, thank god.
I'm thinking of all of you that will be hit harder than we will in Ontario. Stay safe, you guys!!!!!!! We cranked the heat just in case our power goes out.

My mom is in Stamford and lost power hours ago. A lot of my FB friends in CT say they have lost power. Knock on wood, we still have it. This storm is scaring me.
NBC news just reported there was a huge crane on the 90th floor of an apartment in NYC broke around 2pm today. They had to evacuate all the buildings and a hotel nearby and they're trying to figure out how to fix this situation. It could easily fall especially with the hurricane still approaching. How crazy!
DC area is mostly doing ok, lots of rain and the wind is starting to really pick up. There are power outages, but they're mostly localized right now, same with flooding. Federal government already announced that it's closed tomorrow.

My mom is 15 miles north of AC by the way the crow flies.
I hate this. I hate that she is staying home. I called this am and all was well, but I am certain she is out of power by now.
She is on a God-Damned river, wide river, with marsh on the opposite side. Driving me nuts!

We already lost power here! The wind is crazy, and we are obviously quite far from the actual storm.
