UPDATE #2: Now I'm a little confused. I just got an e-mail back from the foster with a PDF of two labels and dates of when the shots were given to kitty. But the foster is saying the adoption group gave them to her. In the e-mails and in person she was saying she had to get the records from the vet.
Doesn't this sound fishy? Why didn't the adoption peeps just give me this shit when I asked multiple times?
Off to google what vax kittens are supposed to get and how far apart.
****UPDATE (sorta): The foster lady e-mailed me last night saying she would get the records to me, but didn't say when. At least she responded. I told her that wanted to get her into the vet this week.
So hopefully she will actually get them to me. If not, I'll contact the vet and go that route. If that doesn't work, I'll be getting her completely vaxed again.
If that happens, do you think I should persue reimbursement from the adoption place?**********
I adopted my still nameless kitty on the 3rd. The adoption lady asked the foster lady for the vet records that day. She said she would have to get them. I was told that kitty still needed one more vaccine.
On the 5th I had to meet up with the adoption lady to give her a check (got missed in all the excitement). She said she still had to follow up with foster lady.
I e-mailed foster lady an update on kitty (per her request) on the 7th and also asked about when I could get the vet records.
I have not heard from either people since then.
What is a reasonable amount of time to expect that I get my kitty's records? Should I be contacting both of them again? I don't want to be a bother, but I want to make sure that my kitty gets the proper vaccine(s) when I take her in for a check up. I wanted to do it last week. I don't want to have to take her to the vet more than she needs to.
Also, the adoption lady had ran out of microchips and kitty is supposed to come with one according to all the paperwork I signed. I still need to go back and have them chip her. Should I just ask about the vet records again when I go and do that? Prolly this coming weekend.
Oh also, they did tell me which vet they took the cat to. Would I be able to contact the vet and give them the name of the foster lady/adoption place and get the kitty's info that way? I just wonder if that's even possible.

I would try that next. I don't see why they wouldn't give them to you but I don't know how that works with vets. But at the very least you can probably take her there and tell them to give her whatever she needs per the records they already have.
ETA: And no, you aren't being a pest. If we're talking about a baby kitten, they need shots at certain week markers. I'm sure giving one a week or two late isn't the end of the world but I wouldn't want it to get to that point. If contacting the vet isn't successful, I would call the adoption lady every two days until I had the records. Or ask her for the foster's contact info and start calling her.

When you go in for the microchip, it wouldn't hurt to let the foster lady know when you plan to go in and you'd appreciate if she could drop off the records. Rescues are usually really busy and sometimes things fall through the cracks, or just move really slowly.
Some vets are a lot more casual with their records than people doctors. When I adopted one of my cats the foster mom just emailed me scans of her records, and my new vet took them. If the foster lady or agency aren't responsive you could try contacting the vet.
Shouldnt take long. The thing is, if you do call the vet, the vet would have to get permission from last owner/rescue to release records. After a few weeks I would imagine be enough time. I would call the adoption place yet again.
I'll try again this weekend. If it's not successful by then, I'll contact the vet and go from there.
I do have the contact info on the foster. She gave it to me in order to give her updates. She insisted that if I take the kitty, I HAD to send her updates. She has even offered to send me "baby" pictures, but again, I haven't heard from her since.
She actually gave kind of a guilt trip when we were adopting her. In her e-mail she even said that if she had more room or didn't already have 2 cats, she would have kept her. Which is nice and all, but she was very um...attached the day that we took her. She teared up and everything.

Oh. Then start calling the foster today.
She shouldn't have said that to you about keeping the kitten. I can totally see getting attached to foster pets - that's why I don't do it, because I would want to adopt every dog - but you don't tell that to the adopter. Maybe she's hoping it won't work out and you'll give her back? lol.

Most vets are not going to give you the info....for one if its a vet that deals with shelters often they go by a number system, and may not even know what cat you have. Secondly, they aren't allowed to give out information to a person who is not on the chart. I would send a message to the foster owner and adoption lady and say I have an appointment on "xyz" and I need the records. That way it gives them a deadline. That said, when I adopted my dog they were jerking me around telling me he had a rabies vax but couldn't prove it and lost the records etc. I just got him another vaccine.
Even if they can't give you the records, i would think they should still be able to tell you what vaccination is needed. It doesn't hurt to try. Worst case, you end up still having to call the foster mom.
I left a voicemail tonight. I hope to hear from the foster lady soon. I'm going to be PO'd if I have to pay for vaccines ontop of what I've paid to adopt her.
v, I don't have any new pictures, but I posted these last week.

Just multiple things I wanted to address
1) I give the original vet records at the time of adoption. You should be able to call the vet and get the records. Most kittens require boosters every few weeks, so you should get them asap. Most rescues also have a ten day return or veterinary expense coverage for any kind of illness, so records are important in that regard. 2) I have cried before when people adopt my fosters but try to do it out of people's presence. 3) We've had a few kittens I would have kept if we didn't have a full house. I do sometimes tell adopters this. It's not meant as a guilt tactic at all but rather to highlight the fact that they chose a really nice cat. If I really wanted to keep your cat I would have kept your cat, kwim? 4) I do volunteer "baby pictures" and ask for updates. We've had 30+ fosters, I still hear from the majority of adopters even 3 or 4 years later. I'm also still in contact with the person I adopted my cat from five years ago. You are by no means required to send updates, etc. I'm not looking at adopters and judging how they handle the cats, I'm not regretting adopting them out three years down the line. When you're constantly getting requests to foster and euthanasia alerts from the local pound it is very cool to see how much a previous cat you've pulled is valued by someone else's family.
Well what was in the initial adoption agreement? I would call the adoption place yet again, the vet is going to need permission to release that sorta knowledge to you. I got through this all the time with adopting horses, some owners won't release the records and legally they can't release someone elses file.
Geez! Yeah, they definitely need to get that to you. I volunteer with a rescue. Several of the volunteers are trained to administer vaccines, so they're not on record with a vet. Our adopters receive paperwork including a sticker from the bottle of the vaccs with the batch number, in case there's ever a recall or something for a particular batch. We're not allowed to release a foster unless its paperwork is with it. Probably to avoid situations like this. I'd be annoyed :-\
Hope you get it soon! Someone probably misplaced it, and now they're scrambling. There's no other explanation.
Can you take kitty to the original vet for vax? At least call and ask what/when kitty us due for the next shots..
I'm going to try this if I don't actually get it from the foster. But from all the posts here, it seems like I have a 50/50 shot.
If the lady doesn't come through with it this week, I'll be trying it next week. If it doesn't work, I'm just going to get all her vaccines again.
I won't be using the first vet they took her to when they found her. I personally didn't like them when I took H's family dog there years ago. The foster lady didn't like them either and took kitty to another vet soon after her first surgery. (she was hit by a semi). From what I understand the first vet is the one that did vaccines as well.

I'd be reluctant to re-vaccinate unless absolutely necessary. There is always the risk of sarcoma and vaccine reaction.
I'd go straight to the rescue director and let her know you need the vet paperwork asap. They can mail or fax it straight to your vet. We have ours in an online record system so its easy to transfer.

If you know what vet did the vax, try calling and saying that you adopted her and need her records faxed to the new vet. There are no confidentiality laws governing pets like there are humans.

The laws regarding animal records' confidentiality vary by state. While there are no federal laws governing medical records (like HIPAA), most states have laws regarding the confidentiality of records. These laws vary from laws that serve to allow the owner to have access to their pet's records to laws that strictly forbid release of the animal's records without owner authorization.
