Sure, Mags, but their students shouldn't know these things. Sleeping around isn't illegal, but if they were caught smoking weed, they could be fired.
But being a stripper or doing porn are not illegal...and as far as i know it was not a religious school where she may have signed a moral contract.
I recognize that and that's why I said that ultimately she should not have been fired for this. If the school was against these things, they should have done a better background check and not hired her in the first place or put it in the contract.
eta- Also, when I wrote that, I was struggling with whether I thought she was a good role model or a bad one. You just assumed I had decided bad.

Lurky mcLurkinstein...
I agree that she's actually an AWESOME role model. If she teaches older kids, this could even be used as an example for them: never give up hope, there's always a way to turn your life around, etc.
I had two somewhat similar examples in my HS:
-ex-addict Spanish teacher. She'd close the door to her room and tell graphic stories about how terrible it was to be a user and encourage kids to figure out other ways of coping. Pretty sure the school officials didn't know about it, but her students LOVED her, and many used her as a resource when they were in trouble.
-erotica-writing English sub. We found our sub's books in the bookstore and discovered she was definitely into domination. We may have giggled about it behind her back, but I never felt like her behavior defined our behavior in any way. And knowing how hard it is to get published, I still had some respect for her for going after her dreams.
I could see if this teacher were somehow encouraging this life path, or if this were a religious school... but even still I agree with PPs who feel bad that there's no second chance.
^ If I found out that a teacher was talking to my kids about their drug use/porn/sex in a class that was not sex-ed, I would be infuriated. Not her place. At all.

yes, i assumed because you said a student shouldnt know these things.
You assumed before I said that and I went with it, thus my response. I like to look at both sides. However, when I originally wrote that, I had not decided. I still don't know what I would think as a parent, but I think I could manage my 16 year old having a porn star teacher.

Regardless, she shouldn't have been fired.
no, I assumed by the post right above mine, actually im wasnt assuming i was interperting your post as i understood it, but im glad we both agree she shouldnt have been fired.

It was my understanding that she was just teaching. Some kids found the porno and were giggling about it in gym class. Gym teacher found out and brought it to the principal's attention.
She wasn't, as far as I know, giving sex ed information or any other advice in class or whatnot.

I'm still worried about this, lol.
Is it bad that it makes a difference to me what her life circumstances were? How old is she? How long ago did she do all of this? If its a great "life back on track" story, rather than a "I wanted to make some money" story, that makes a different, I think.
I don't think she should have been fired, maybe not hired in the first place.

Oh I was referring to the post above mine, I just didn't want to quote the whole thing. She said her teacher used to talk to them about doing drugs etc. I don't know if she should've been fired, but I do think it affected her teaching negatively, which is an issue. A 16 year old isn't going to think, "oh good for her for succeeding through tough times", they are going to think, "haha Ms Smith was taped having SEX!"
