I just had the scariest moment of my life. Fiona was being fussy (she's teething so all bets are off lately. so I just decided to go to bed- she's in our room). I couldn't fall asleep and heard a hacking noise then gurgling and turned the light on and jumped up. She had vomited and couldn't breathe. I grabbed her and gave her a few seconds to cough but she was covered practically head to toe in vomit and it was coming out of her nose and mouth. She was just wide-eyed and flailing and not crying. I had to flip her and do the Heimlich maneuver.
I'm terrified to think what may have happened if I wasn't right next to her. It was so quiet I don't think I would have heard it on the monitor over the tv. Maybe not even if I was sleeping. It's terrifying. I know lots of people having choking babies when they're eating, etc., but in her sleep is do much scarier. After I ran out to the living room to dh I came back and saw how much vomit there was. I don't think I would even have that much in me if I threw up.
I'm weaning her off of our soft bed (and she's in her guardian sleeper and can't roll so don't judge too harshly!) so she has extra padding on her mattress. She had soaked through a velour sheet, regular sheet, 2 towels, a blanket, and on the mattress itself. I have no idea how I'm going to sleep tonight.

DS had a cold a while ago and coughed until he threw up and started choking. He was right next to me in bed because he had just eaten. I had to tip him upside down and pat until he threw up all over our bed. It was scary. I had a hard time sleeping for a while too. At least tonight you know she can't have much more to throw up if she puked all that. I'm so sorry though. It is very terrifying, but she will be okay.
Thanks. I just have such bad anxiety and insomnia already. Tonight was the third time she had avocado so I wonder if she's allergic. The first times she ate maybe 1/2 oz of it, but tonight she was digging it and had 2 oz plus her oatmeal.

ugh, sorry you had to go through that. That actually is reassuring. She surely can't have anything left in her.

Is it possible that she just ate too much?
yeah I guess, but I would say really not that much more than usual. When she didn't eat much avocado the last times she ate more oatmeal. She ate more avocado and less oatmeal this time. She has been pretty good so fat about stopping when she's full. But I'm sure it's a possibility- never know with these creatures.
Oh my goodness Biblio, I am so so sorry! I could not for a second imagine thr things that were racing through your mind and how terrifying that must have been. Hug her extra tight tonight and I'm so glad she is alright.

This may or may not be comforting, but Edie did this once as a tiny baby. Like you said it was REALLY TERRIBLE. But, she hasn't done it since {knocks on all the woods}.

Oh how awful! Poor Fiona and poor mom!!! It's so scary that is was so quiet. DD has had a bad cough lately and she sometimes (ok, often) throws up a good part of her bottle right after eating. After I put her to bed at night I am checking on her with every cough to make sure she didn't throw up in bed (she hasn't yet). I'm so sorry that happened to you and hope it doesn't happen again!! ((hugs))
Juliana did this as a baby but I was holding her and it was one of the scariest moments of my life. I broke a hospital-grade bulb syringe and two cheapies suctioning her out. It was terrifying and I am so sorry you had to experience that.
Oh my god... you poor thing, and your poor baby I am tearing up right now reading this. I can't imagine what you're going through, that is so scary. Any idea what caused the violent vomiting? Hugs!!!

Thanks so much everyone. She slept pretty well last night after that. I moved her crib so it was butted up right next to my side of the bed and managed to get some sleep! She's gotten choked up a few times today on some NASTY smelling spit up, but seems pretty normal today. ugh, this better never happen again.
I'm late to the post. I just want to say I'm glad its ok. M choked once months ago and I couldn't sleep good for awhile after that. It is scary. But you took care of her. Big hugs to you all!
