Mono was my guess too but nothing I've read about mono says anything about the flu like symptoms.
I thought I had the flu when I had mono. I also had two rounds of symptoms. The first round was extreme fatigue, then right when I thought I was getting over that I got a really bad sore throat.
It was mono. He had blood test results and they came back today. He started getting a sore throat last week so he had a f/u appointment today anyway.
I hope the kids and I are ok. With a 3.5 month old and a 2 year old and a really sick DH the last thing I need is for me or either of the kids to get sick.
We are on week 4 so I am crossing my fingers that we'd have it already. What sucks is that the doctor said the symptoms could last another month. Uggh.
Hope he feels better soon. My sister got mono as an adult while living with me (I had a baby too) & it was misdiagnosed for a couple weeks as well. It never spread to us. Hope you guys stay clear!
I hope he has a speedier recover than I did! When I had mono in college I was sick as a dog for a month, feeling mostly OK but exhausted for another month, and really easily run down for another month after that. Luckily it was in the summer and I didn't miss any school, but it was miserable!

Glad he got answers. I hope he starts feeling better soon. You are probably okay as far as getting >90% of the population has already been exposed to mono by the time they're an adult. Generally when you get it when you're younger it manifests itself as a simple cold, so you generally don't know you have it.
Your kids and baby are probably okay as well. I can't remember the communicability period, but I "think" it's a short, so he's beyond the contagious stage anyway.

Seriously, he needs like 12-16 hours of rest a day even (especially) when he starts to feel better. It is really easy to have setbacks if you push it with mono.
