I also love the gummy vitamins! I also started using OPKs the second cycle, then started charting on our 4th cycle. I'm glad that I did, because now we are into the fertility testing stage, and the dr said it really helps that I've been charting.
Just wanted to chime in that we are going to be TTC in 2013 too! Yay! It won't be until fall when the building of our new house will (hopefully) be done! My original plan about a year ago was to try this fall, but it will be a lot less stressful and hopefully I will be more able to enjoy the whole pregnancy experience if we're all settled into the new house. I've actually been taking prenatals for a few years now, just because I like what they do for my hair and nails . I'm planning on stopping bcp's in about July...
I already take a multivitamin, and that's what I'll stick with until a BFP.
The gummy vitamins are better than nothing if it's all you can take, but they don't have much calcium at all, and are lower in a few other nutrients too. So if you CAN take the boring "just swallow it" kind, try to do so. Especially before you have morning sickness to contend with.
I have a copy of TCOYF, and found it helpful/interesting/informative. I don't plan to chart right away though because it would make me too focused and insane.
I went off BCPs about 2.5 years ago and it took me a good 6 months to settle into a new normal. That isn't to say I couldn't have gotten pregnant in those first 6 months, but it was harder to predict. I'm back on now. I probably won't go off until Sept 2013 because I don't want to make hormonal changes in the middle of triathlon season, but I accept that I may not get pg right away.
Overall I plan to start out relatively casually about the whole thing. I don't need to get pg in any given month, and don't want to stress about trying to line everything up perfectly for it to happen. If we go 6+ months with no luck, then I'll start being more careful about charting, etc.

this is very true. Mine doesn't really have any calcium or iron at all. (the lack of iron being the likely reason that they don't bother me) It's got plenty of folate, and all the A/D/B vitamins so it's better than nothing, but I do have to be aware of that. I end up taking tums 2 or 3 times a day anyway for heartburn (everything gives me heartburn) so I figure I'm good on calcium. The iron...well...I eat a lot of spinach and prunes? I dunno. I'm probably not getting the recommended amounts, but so far no anemia issues.
I went to CVS last night. I almost bought the prenatal gummies, but I went w/Nature Made prenatal vitamins after comparing the labels. I'm sure I can suck it up for one pill a day. DH was so cute, scrutinizing the labels with me.
Great advice all, thank you! I went off BCP last year for a few months just to see how it was. I got my cycle pretty regularly. I'm not sure if that means everything was up and running normally. But I guess we'll see.
I think I need to switch OBGYNs b/c mine is a little far away

I was thinking about this too. Mine is 30-40 minutes from home, and it's closer to my family (far for H's family) for the big event I think it is great. And actually, I see a Certified nurse midwife. She delivered my nephew and the hospital has really nice private rooms. The dr office is attached to the hospital.
What I'm concerned about is all the appointments leading up. The office/hospital is nearly an hour drive from work.
Anyone want to chime in about How often do you generally go in? I have a lot of friends that said if you pick a doctor that is affiliated with our University Hospitals, they make you deliver downtown now at the main medical campus. We have a great childrens hospital there and Im thinking they want the proximity or something. And cheaper to maintain one maternity ward than use the regional branches, but i really don't want to deal with driving downtown or making our families do that either.
I think the schedule for appointments when I was pregnant with DS was the following:
Every four weeks until 30 weeks gestation, then Every two weeks until 36 weeks gestation, then Every week until 40 weeks gestation.
If I were to go overdue, I was going to have to go in twice a week. DS was born at 40w3d, so that didn't happen.

Yeah, that's quite a few appointments. Time to start hunting. I was seeing a nurse midwife too. Maybe I'll call to office to see if they recommend anyone in my area. That's not a faux pas right?

We will also begin TTC in January We decided this timeline a year ago, so we've had a year to prepare. I've been taking prenatals vitamins since last spring, began exercising regularly in July, went off the pill in August, and began charting in September. All of this was not completely necessary, we are just really big planners.
Best of luck! I hope we both get KU our first cycles
