While we're talking appropriateness of clothing and such...I have a lighthearted question for you all.
The bridal party for a wedding I'm in later this year has discussed making simple little sundressses in a cow print for the rehearsal.
Like this:
The bride is obsessed with cows. She would die laughing if we showed up to the rehearsal in matching cow dresses. Boys would get vests. Obviously the vest is never going to get worn again.
But the dress...would you wear that? In public? Whimsical or stupid? I can't decide.

I would wear it as a joke, but there is no way I could wear that and be serious. Plus I'm fat and fat people probably shouldn't wear an entire cow print dress. Or anyone really.
Ok. I felt like maybe I was being a stick in the mud because I wasn't wild about the idea of this dress I'd never wear again (unlike my dress for the actual wedding, which is simple and black and I very well might wear again).
No, no, no, no, no...and I say that as someone with a soft spot for cow print (My mom LOVES cows and has a crazy cow-themed kitchen, so I always think of her and smile when I see cows. And I STILL wouldn't wear this dress or anything like it).
I like the shawl idea. Any way you guys can manage that?
I could see doing this if everyone were on board and everyone had a pretty good sense of humor. I also think this is a bad idea if even one person in the bridal or grooms party is overweight. If they're all on board, I guess they can go for it, but it seems like a bad idea.
you mean besides me?
Yes, the MOH, three of the groomsmen, as well as the bride and me are all assorted amounts of overweight. I don't think that factor had even occured to anybody. I'm not sure that changes my opinion in the slightest though.
I'd be perfectly happy to wear it for the rehearsal...I'm iffy on dinner, I'm REALLY iffy on the bar after dinner. And then I don't think I'd eve wear it again, which makes me iffy on the whole thing.
My favorite alternative is still the tights that sibil PiPed.
So...question for the no-way, no-how crowd - Is it because of the cow = fatty association, or just because you think it looks silly/ugly/not your style/whatever.
I was looking at it the same way I'd look at having a dress in zebra print. There is no way I'd be wearing that again. It's silly. The fatty cow aspect hasn't even occured to me.

I would wear it again, but only because Chick fil A does dress like a cow days where you get a free meal. I would consider it a huge step up from what I normally do- scotch tape construction paper to my clothes.

Oh RIGHT! that might make the whole thing totally worth it.

The cow = fat association automatically comes to mind, so that's where my strong negative reaction came from.
Animal print, period, isn't my style, but I wouldn't be completely opposed to wearing, say, a leopard print dress if it was for a good reason. I'd feel completely silly and like, well, a cow in a cow print dress. Mortified, I think is the word.

I'm really amused that a free meal is making you reconsider.
However, I will also say I am also in the no way camp because I am not comfortable enough with my body to wear a cow print because of the cow = fat association. In my head, I would be certain everyone was staring at me and thinking something along the lines of "fat cow". I also have body image issues though.
