You're talking about the gorgeous wine country of upstate New York, right? Muddled is coming to the great Finger Lakes! Hooray!
But no, really. We got a great date at a double tree in rhonert park, like $90, that ended up being a great location. I can't remember the wineries, but I would recommend Gloria Ferrer and Domaine Carneros champagneries.
You're coming to Virginia? Hooray! Charlottesville has some pretty decent wineries. Barboursville is the best, and it comes with the bonus remains of a Southern plantation house.
I did a wine trip last fall that was awesome! We stayed in a house on a winery called Tournesol. We did all private tastings at very small, privately owned wineries. I wanted to taste wines that aren't your standard fare at restaurants at home. My favorite was,by far, Chateau Boswell. The best part about the trip is that it was totally stress free. We used a concierge who talked to us about what we wanted and then set the whole thing up. She booked all of the tastings and hired our driver. Our driver would pick us up in the morning and would take us to all of the places on our schedule. He'd give us a menu mid morning so that we could order lunch and we'd take a break mid-day to pick up our food and have picnics. He'd lived in Napa his whole life so he had lots of inside knowledge and connections. Sometimes, if we'd get off schedule or need to rearrange, he'd just call someone he knew at a winery nearby and book us a last minute tasting. It was truly one of the best trios of my life!
DL sucks for not being helpful, although I realize that she would be genuinely excited if we were to be sidetracked by NC on our way to CA.
(Bowies, I suggest we plan a weekend in Charlottesville. Maybe next fall?)
SORRY. I would love to hear your experience afterwards as that's a trip we'd love to go on too! And I would love love love if you came to NC, but maybe you and Bowies would let me tag along next fall!! I'm not that far from Bowies!
I would like to say, FTR, that I asked my MOH not to throw me a shower or bachelorette thingamabob, but she got me to agree to a girls' trip. Which she is advertising as a bachelorette weekend. She's a sneaky one.
I have not explored wine country much, sadly. I went to a wedding in Santa Rosa, so we swung by J Winery in the Russian River Valley. I loved doing the tasting there, so if you'll be out that way, instead of Napa, I'd check out J Winery. I love their sparkling wine.
That aside, I say hooray for the trip!
ETA: I looked at Bowies' links. The Flamingo seemed pretty cool, very retro. We didn't stay there, but many of the other people attending the wedding did and loved it. And Ravenswood Zinfandel is really pretty darn good.

Yay!!! I want to hang with Muddled too!
Because I don't want to end up on the suck list, I will offer this: Muddled, if you still need recs my brother just went over the summer. I can ask him where he went and which ones he enjoyed.
I think we have it pretty much figured out at this point, Bully. Thanks! Although... if you want to tell me his favorites, it would not fall on deaf ears.
As long as you can fit in the overhead bin, I'm happy to take you with me. Honestly, we have a CC that has domestic companion airfare as a benefit. We are both flying from NYC to SF for under $400. It'a amazing. Anyone that ever travels by air should have one.
