I’m finally getting my iron infusion! For weeks my dr has refused. My RE wrote a letter to her explaining why it was necessary. All Of my numbers have been going down since March. It’s not going to get any better. Also, I’m excited to get a day off even though I’ll be at the infusion center for about 2 hours, maybe more.
41 and my periods are horrendously awful. I bleed so much that I’m getting a second iron infusion in the past 5 months. I was diagnosed with adenomyosis which is like endometriosis but it affects the inside of the uterine muscle. I have horrendous pain as well for about three days every month. I take tramadol for pain. One period I took over 50 Advil and nothing touched my pain. It’s been so bad.
What does your Dr say? Do they think an ablation would help? Or, some sort of hormonal birth control? This sounds awful.
We are currently ttc through IVF. I had one failed round and will try again this summer. Right now I’m on progesterone birth control. I can’t take regular birth control because I had a DVT when I broke my ankle 4 years ago. The progesterone might help the bleeding a little, not as good as regular birth control. The only cure for adenomyosis is hysterectomy. Ablation won’t help. The infusion will help me feel better but won’t get rid of the heavy bleeding. I was so sick in November and I didn’t make the connection to anemia. My hemoglobin was at an 8 and low normal is 12. My ferritin was at a 3 and normal is 20 and above.
I don't know the answer to your question, but can I throw in a side question since we're talking about periods changing? I've noticed in the last several months that mine are lighter than ever. I'm about to turn 37 and with my last period, I think I used 5-6 tampons total. And I think only 1-2 were even completely soaked. I really haven't noticed any other health changes. Is this normal? I'm on BC and my periods are still pretty regular, though occasionally a day late.
Omg! So lucky! I use at least 40 tampons per cycle. Plus pads. Every hour I need to change.

Congrats!!! That's a great beta! When you mentioned mild cramping last week I was so hoping this was it for you! The only times I've been pregnant, I've had mild cramping right before my beta.
I have been an emotional mess and having symptoms, but I am also selling my house so I just chalked it up to that. It’s so surreal. Science rocks.
I'm new here, but I've been quietly following along for a while. I start stimulation on Saturday with a loose timeline of an egg retrieval on May 30. Right now I'm just steeling my nerves to begin injections, but we've had lots of quality sessions with the nurses to prepare and my husband feels really confident for Saturday morning's Menopur injection. I'm just hoping the first one is not as bad as I fear and the rest will get easier.
Thinking of you in this journey. I did all of my injections myself. So much easier than my husband doing them. I didn’t think it was all that bad at all. I’d say by the 3rd day I felt like a pro!
I shower every day. Sometimes twice depending on when I workout. I don’t wash my hair every day, but I do get it wet. I feel like I need to wash the sleep off of me everyday. I hate not showering. H is every day too. But sometimes at night and not in the morning.
Thanks guys, it’s a lot better today. I think it’s period related. I have always had a pretty light cycle until the past couple years and now I have a lot heavier cycle and more cramps. I know it’s still within the realm of a normal period, but I wish it was the way it was before!
Yesterday sucked!
A heavy period is not normal. I have adenomyosis. I soak through an ultra tampon and pad every hour or so for at least 24 hours. It’s coupled with debilitating pain for about 3-5 days. I have to take tramadol to ease the pain. Advil or Aleve won’t cut it. I’ve had to take time off work as well because of my period.
If you think it’s related to your period make an appointment.
I think you have a lot of thoughts, and you should narrow your focus.
Before it closed, we'd drive over 20 miles to go Shoofly Pie Company in West Seattle because they had amazingly good pie (I'm told their savory pies were great also, but my H is insane and hates chicken pot pie so we only ever went for dessert). That business lasted 7 years, and Casper Babypants wrote a little jingle about them, and even though they shut down probably >5 years ago, I'm still bummed they are gone.
We also used to go to this coffee shop that had good coffee and that had a sort of little bonus conference room that was available for rentals. We never used the conference room, but it was occupied pretty much every time we were there - I'm not sure how it worked exactly, but in addition to the small rental fee, I think you were also expected to buy coffee/pastries for everyone in attendance, sort of like a cover charge/drink minimum. It was really intended for businesses having offsite meetings though, not people having parties.
So basically, I'm the type of person who would go to these places, but I think the type of vibe you are going for isn't 100% clear. The types of people who want to do a pie baking contest aren't necessarily the same as the people who want to hang out playing board games at a café. I think if you tried to do everything you've listed you'd immediately feel overwhelmed.
I forgot about that place! There’s a super yummy hamburger place there now! Coastline!
The sun came out in time for my real estate pics. House is probably going on the market tomorrow. Eek!
I am feeling slightly less crazy and stressed today, but still so nervous for my test Thursday. I don’t feel pregnant but it’s too damn early to feel much anyways. This process is such a complete mind fuck.
There So much anticipation for everything! It’s a total mind fuck!
We went on a huge field trip yesterday. It was so much fun, but I’m still exhausted. Making sure that 22 second graders and 8 chaperones are accounted for, safe and acting appropriately is exhausting.
Lol! They are the ones that created the leveling system! F&P = Fountas and Pinnell. Trust me, they’ve done lots of research!
I am aware of who they are. I am sure they've done lots of research on how to properly level texts and how to teach reading. If they have done research on giving levels to parents they don't site it. I am not sure why you would assume they specifically done research on this specific topic given what is on their site.
In the "research base" document on their site I don't see any particularly compelling finding that leveled libraries are problematic. You can offer choice in the leveled context which seems to be an important part of their program. A level library would also facilitate the pairing they specifically mention on page 1. Researchers also recommend matching
They created the entire program! They have done research! They are the researchers! There are two articles that they themselves put out regrading how and how not to use their own program and how it impacts students.
I’ve got nothing going on this week as far as TTC. Just taking birth control in hopes that it lightens my period a bit. I’ll be getting an iron infusion as soon as possible. We might be able to try again in a month or two.
It’s not like parents find out their child is struggling when the report card comes out. There are conferences, meetings and interventions that take place well before a report card comes out. Parents are well informed about reading struggles without the use of a reading level. A score should never be a surprise on a report card. Leveling is one tool teachers use as gauge for their teaching. It’s really not a useful tool for kids. A student is not a level.
Sure in theory a report card should not be a surprise but we all know that good teachers make mistakes and there are bad teachers out there who are not effectively communicating. My son's first report card was a total shock and I am not the only person who has found out there was an issue from a report card. The communication gap was so poor in my case that it went all the way up to the top to be addressed. At our school parent teacher conferences are twice a year for 10 mins. Teachers are not able to walk through example texts and do text analysis in the limited time they have. Level is pretty clear and descriptions of levels are sent home in early grades so parents can understand the differences.
I read the link and their blog and it is just opinion. There is nothing they mention that supports their assessment that parents shouldn't be told the levels. They site no research that knowing levels is impact one way or the other. Nor to they point to anything that specifically looks at level vs. unleved book arrangements in classes or libraries and their impacts on reading and self-estimate. Honestly no one knows if providing levels is generally helpful or not. I've found it essential for our son given his reading delays but that is more due to the adversarial nature of getting additional support.

Oh boy. But f and p levels are not for parents or kids.
But why not?
It can be helpful to know what level your kid reads well when you buy books/get books from the library and/or if you have concerns that your child is behind. I think this is especially important if a child is a getting a 1 on a report card. In second that could mean you read J level or down. If you ready at a B level vs if you read at a J level the concerns are very different.
I am just not sure why it needs to be hidden since you already use it.

And 3 maps to a level or maybe a narrow range of levels. It is implicit in the standards. If not telling parents the exact level helps that is fine but you're already implicitly using it in report cards.

I googled and got this for a second grade example. This presupposed there is a grade leveling system which is going to be based on something. Someone has to create texts and books for each grade. It might be lexile or guided reading level but there test text will be leveled and if you pass it you presumably read at that level or above it.
Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.2.4.A
Read grade-level text with purpose and understanding.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.2.4.B
Read grade-level text orally with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression on successive readings.

Use context to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding, rereading as necessary.
To take it a step further - if you read any F&P book they specifically state over and over again that the levels are for educators only to guide instruction and should never be give to parents. Why? For reasons like this thread. I get it, parents want to do what's best for their child/ren. What's best is let them read something they CAN read and WANT to read. Don't pay any attention to a level. At my school we never tell parents what level their child is reading at. We tell them the traits their child has a reader, things they can do at home, what we're working on at school, etc. but a letter level is never given and I wish other schools would follow suit.
Also, FWIW - the Raz-Kids and F&P levels do not correlate to one another past level J (which is typically end of first grade year goal).
How do you do report cards? Isn't level implicit in whatever you're putting on there? Our school has pretty clear reading levels that map to different levels for each report card (e.g. M is the end of year grade standard)
I'd be curious what state your in. I believe where we are parents have a right to any assessments if they ask. I've always known levels and for my younger one such knowledge was essential because he is so far behind. Had the teachers not been required to provide I fear they would have tapped danced around his reading issues and he would have just moved from grade to grade without us fully understanding his delay until 3rd or 4th grade when reading is a basis of other work and not an end goal on its own.
I ordered some cupshe suits last month and wasn’t expecting much but I love them! I ordered 3 different styles in 2 sizes each from amazon and kept two. They do run small, fwiw, but are very flattering and comfortable.
I’m tempted to get a suit from them. They are super cute!
Title 9! I bought a cute bikini last year that actually stays put in the water. I can’t lap swim in it, but can definitely be active in it. I wear a Speedo two piece for working out. I just get that on amazon.
Hmmm...I actually don't know those other measures at all, so I don't know where she would fall. I do know that I just purchased the F&P program for K from the PTO. But that's the only program that sounds familiar.
But it tells you what levels are for end of 2nd which is what it sounded like you wanted to know. So then google books with DRA level 28-30. Or it looks like F and P is probably similar to DIBELS, so it looks like M is the end of 2nd grade level. Either way you can use the chart to find books for your kid if you really wanted. It sounds like you only want to use DIBELS levels and other levels that mean the same thing aren’t going to work for you though.
I’m pretty sure dibels doesn’t apply a reading level to each student. It’s a quick indicator of reading success. F&P is not the same as DIBELS.
Second grade teacher here! The one thing I tell parents is to find books that have characters that are the same age as their child and don’t worry about level. That way, you know the story line will be developmentally appropriate. My school used to be so hard core about reading levels. We told kids, and parents the levels and it created so much competition and feelings of inadequacy across the board. We’ve backed off a ton and don’t tell kids or parents the reading level. It has improved classroom and school culture tremendously. Also, just let her read for pure enjoyment!
Teachers use levels to place kids in interventions , etc. what we tell parents is: your child is either reading below grade level expectations and is receiving intervention, at grade level, or above grade level.
