We just got back from Maui (BTW joenali thank you for recommending the trilogy trip to Lanai'i - we loved it!).
We are doing two weeks in England and France over the summer. I haven't been to England in like 20 years, and H and the girls hae never been to Europe.
Oooh! I’m so glad. I think Trilogy was the highlight of our trip!
We are planning on going to Europe. We haven’t quite narrowed anything down yet. Barcelona, Béziers, Copenhagen, Florence, Nice. We work with a travel agent so we give her places we want to go and she’ll come back with the numbers and itineraries. We won’t go to all of these places but they are places we would like to go. We’ll probably have something scheduled in the next month or two.
Also, the student health center where I'm going to be going to grad school (and where I have also worked for the last 11 months) wants proof of MMR vaccination. So annoying. I had it a few years ago before traveling, so I sent them that, but they want proof of the 2 part series. I am turning 38 this year, and I had that vaccine on schedule as a baby. I don't have proof! I guess I can get blood drawn and show a titer or whatever, but that seems annoying. Vaccinations are really important but I think we can safely assume that most lifelong US residents my age HAVE had those vaccines, can't we? The anti-vax stuff is too recent. I think I find this extra annoying because I'm currently walking around campus every day without this proof, so why do they need it now? I've been in the building where my classes are held several times as an employee so nothing about being a student is suddenly going to make me more a danger to others...
I'm a little older than you and was raised by an antivaxxer. Vaccine skepticism has been around as long as vaccines.
I have the most annoying coworker ever. All she talks about at lunch is “her babies”. My babies did that, did this, didn’t do this but did that. She can’t stop talking about her babies. It’s literally nonstop. And I’d like to punch her.
On the other hand I have plenty of lovely coworkers whose children I’ve known and some I’ve taught and I WANT to hear about them. And sometimes I’ll ask how they are doing. It’s different than the above crazy lady. Maybe it’s because they don’t always talk about their kids? I don’t know.
I’m going into school today. My goal is to stay no longer than two hours. I need to make some copies, make a new seating chart, figure out what I need to teach and hopefully get out of there with the whole day left to be lazy!
As far as vaccines go, my school district is not allowing students to attend school if they don’t have proof of MMR vaccination. Parents can longer opt out of vaccines because of personal reasons. It has to be a religious reason or medical. The district has also held clinics so families can get their vaccines. And staff also need proof of the vaccine or they can’t work. It’s about time!
Where is this magical land of only having 14 kids in a class?
ETA: the only thing a teacher might say is, “have you thought about seeing your pediatrician?” We can’t diagnose anything, or say much. We can only tell facts. I’ve noticed that ______, have you thought about _______.
I’ve seen kids chew the cuff off of their sleeves, roll around on the ground, and not do a single bit of work pre meds. To no chewing, completing tasks and completely focused. No, not all children need meds and probably most don’t. But we are doing a disservice by not even trying meds to those who may need some serious help.
We've done long weekends as well with no issues. Big bowl of food and a couple water dishes. Maybe an extra litter box if you think your cat will use it.
We cat sit for our neighbors. We go over once a day starting about 24 hours after they leave. I fill their water and food, and depending on how long they are gone I don’t do their litter box. If they are gone for a extended time I clean the box.
I was in between cars and needed transportation at the time. It must have been about 2004. My grandparents had stopped driving and I inherited the Aries. It was hysterical!
I would like to try it again. Mostly we did it for health reasons. Then I became severely anemic needing two iron infusions. Not because we were eating vegan/vegetarian, but it did not help me at the time. I’m still slowly getting my ferritin levels up, so I’m still taking iron supplements and eating meats. Mostly chicken and about once a week beef. I think once I get all of these levels to normal I can start cutting it out again.
I used to use Rich Roll’s Plant Power Meal planner. After while I just stopped using it. Some of the recipes are good, some not so good. You can search recipes based on ingredients, appliances/tools you have, and time you want to spend cooking.
Reduce and possibly eliminate my soda habit. Have smoothies for breakfast instead of Tim Horton’s Regularly grade and return student work more frequently
Your last goal was a goal I had a few years ago. I teach second so it’s not like I have to read essays or anything like that. But I set aside time each day to go over things or get rid of them. Each Friday I send home work in their binders. It is super helpful.
Nope. I think it's a ridiculous practice. I'd rather pay it forward to someone who actually needs the help, not someone paying for a $5+ specialty coffee.
I was at the drugstore on Christmas to pick up tissues and cold medicine. This sweet older man didn’t have enough money to pay for his things. He was a dollar short. I gave him a dollar so he could get his things. He actually needed help. And it was easy for me to help out.
People in line for Starbucks don’t necessarily need free coffee.
My neck is killing me. I have no idea what I did. I worked out yesterday morning just fine. And then a couple of hours later I turned my head and bam! I’m in pain. I took some Advil and tramadol last night and honestly it didn’t touch the pain. I’m on the fence about going to urgent care at this point. I’ve been doing a few easy pt exercises to try to get some movement back. Maybe if I don’t feel better I’ll go in tomorrow.
Same! I’m sorry you’re hurting. I woke up like this. Went to bed fine, seemed to have slept fine, but woke up and I can’t move my arm or head without my neck and shoulder killing me! I’ve taken Advil and half muscle relaxer and I’ve been heat and icing and stretching and nothing is touching it.
I’m glad I dint have to work today. If I did, I probably would ha e called in sick.
DH and I really need to make some decisions a soon. So maybe not goals, but just decisions that will help us move forward in some way. We are going to meet with the egg donation coordinator during our break. So that will help.
-look into egg donation -look into embryo donation -if those two options don’t work, get a hysterectomy. -I also need to get ankle surgery at some point. But other things have gotten in the way and I keep putting it off.

I guess it depends on if you want some cash or you want to get rid of the car. I paid $100 for a wrecking company to come and get a sweet 1984 dodge Aries off my hands. Nobody would want it or want to sink money into it. Whereas last year my car wasn’t very crappy, but I wanted to sell it and could get more selling it than trading it in. So we sold privately.
I normally have some variance of neck pain. I literally tuned my head and now I’m in a lot of pain. I’m on a heating paid and took some pain medication. I hope It resolves itself soon. And to top it off SS cut himself with a serrated knife. He was “scrubbing” it, in his words so he could put it in the dishwasher. So they are at urgent care because I think he needs a couple of stitches.
Costa Rica is amazing! We did not stay in a resort but the beaches were awesome! We stayed near Tamarindo on the pacific side. Our favorite beach in the area was Playa Conchal.
Where did you stay? Any activities/tours you would recommend?
We stayed in Playa Langosta in a vacation rental. Our favorite thing we did was the adventure tour.
