Thanks everyone for assuring me that it's NOT an irrational annoyance. I'm getting tired of almost getting hit by the jackasses that run the stop signs around here. Stop at every stop sign every time! Even if you can't see anyone coming!
It's been a while since someone showed up at my office (not this specific one but in general) and started crying. Whooo boy. All the males in the office closed their doors.
She was fine, just overwhelmed with life and technology and *waves arms* stuff. I got her sorted and on her way.
That’s a really high profile property to involve in a $$$ fraud scheme.
This is what I thought, too. Then again, there was that story I posted a while back about some guy's family land that was sold to a developer in almost the same way. Fake notarization, lawyers, etc. There was a several million dollar house built on the property before it was figured out.
Is 50 cents really even a spike? For peets sake people. Chill out. I realize that's my privilege talking but I feel like gas fluctuations like that are pretty normal regardless.
I actually went looking for this story today because someone in my office was complaining about the gas prices, and saying it was all Polis' fault. The whole thing got a giant eyeroll from me.
Also I love the unlimited book aspect of reading on my Kindle (I read on the plane, I've never watched the in-flight movie and I HATE downloading shows/movies to my phone, and I read at my destination too). A kindle is so much easier to pack than multiple physical books.
I think the Kindle might be the thing that changed my traveling the most. I can preload that sucker with 20 different, new books for a trip if I want. Before I'd worry about running out of reading material and end up lugging several heavy books with me.
Ties into the ongoing discussion of "we need the government to act" but not liking the consequences of the government acting, and how people will try to get around this.
FWIW, the cost difference isn't enough to get me to drive to WY or Greeley for gas. I'd waste gas money trying to drive to cheaper gas.
I saw that the US pulled out, I did not realize that was why.
Still, the symbolism of this seems important. I wish it was more than that, though.
FWIW, the accusations against the US were largely proved true. If you remember, most of it centered around interrogation methods by the CIA, and treatment of detainees by US service members.
NPR did a story about it this morning where they interviewed a former ICC judge who seemed to think that this was warranted.
Even if they receive the warrants, nothing actually changes, right? The likelihood of Netanyahu or Sinwar actually being arrested seems pretty slim.
Yes, it's largely symbolic. Putin has had an ICC warrant against him for years. The only way it would be enforced is if they traveled to a participating country, and that country arrested them.
The US pulled out during the Bush administration because US troops were being accused of war crimes in Afghanistan.
This is absolutely terrifying. The climate countdown clock is at 5 years and 62 days. This is the critical time window to reach zero emissions. Think about how fast the past 5 years went by. Let’s hope the U.S. elects Biden who will actually move our country towards that goal instead of away from it.
Let's be clear here though...he's not going to actually do enough. Not unless there's some huge change coming, it's not happening. He likes trains and knows the science is real, but he's still not going to take the kind of drastic action needed to even sorta kinda mitigate what's happening.
But he'll at least keep us making incremental improvements rather than turn and run headlong into even worse outcomes, so....yay biden.
The way people freaked out about electric cars was telling enough. There's no way any democratic government is going to be able to make the changes fast enough.
I don't even know what to say anymore. If you live in a place that is already flooding, perhaps move as soon as you can?
The talk in the Drowning South article about all the infrastructure that needs built for the 6 inches of ocean rise seems like a finger in the metaphorical dam.
Huh? What trial are you talking about? This trial does not look bad for the prosecution even if they have a problem witness. Who takes Fox News or even most reports on CNN seriously?
I disagree. Their case rests on the testimony of a convicted perjurer who admitted to theft, today. It’s not just a problem witness, it’s the only witness to the crime as far as I can tell.
I don’t find any news sources to be truly credible, which is why I listen to many.
Cohen (and Daniels) were certainly the two witnesses that made the most news. However, there's the publisher who bought the story, accountants handling the books, etc. who all testified that Trump knew about the payment and how the day to day operation of the money was handled (personally overseen by Trump). Cohen was always going to be a mess, and the prosecution built a case that could have been presented without him.
I like the idea. Local reddit always has several posts a month asking about coffee houses that are quiet and open late. Primarily for people to study in (university town), but also just to read, write, etc.
I think having a separate room for groups would be good, because IMO groups are loud even when they're just discussing a book, knitting, whatever.
tacokick , do you have an apple store/genius bar nearby that you could go to? I had an issue where mine suddenly was draining the battery quickly and they were able to fix it at the genius bar. (though you do mention yours has been like this the whole time so maybe it's not the same issue) The guy there did something where he cleared everything and then reinstalled everything, I think (it's been 2-3y since this happened) He figured that an app update somehow caused a glitch. It was much better after he fixed it. Good luck!
That is a good idea and what I initially hoped would fix it but I have been twice and done this and it has not helped. I really think it’s a manufacturing issue/defect that is somehow not being picked up on the scans. My phone does seem to run much hotter than my husband’s identical phone. It is often warm to the touch and was even on the first day setting it up.
I'm surprised that after multiple trips they haven't replaced the battery.
I just got my kid's schedule for the first two weeks of summer camp. He's going to come home wiped out based on all the activities planned, which includes swimming every single day and gymnastics twice a week. The only downside to this camp is that I need to send him with lunch/snacks. He's been doing school lunch since he was a toddler. *sad trombone* I'll pull it together, but I'm not happy about it.
Thanks for the reminder of how much I hate making lunch every single day in the summer! DD isn't huge on school lunch but she'll usually have it once or twice a week. She won't eat normal lunches like sandwiches and it's just painful making her lunches!
DS is picky, and I just don't wanna! My plan is to have an assortment of crackers/pretzels, cheese, meats, fruits and veggies prepped that he can mix and match. He does better when he's allowed to choose himself what he wants.
“On May 13, in violation of international law, our team of medical professionals were denied exit by Israel,” Hamawy writes. “When the call finally came to evacuate only U.S. citizens, I chose to stay. As a doctor, I could not, in good conscience, leave my team behind.”
....
“I have never in my career witnessed the level of atrocities and targeting of my medical colleagues as I have in Gaza,” the letter added.
