OMG, DH's family is so ridiculous when it comes to holidays and food (if you may remember, these are the people who informed us the night before Thanksgiving that we were cooking the turkey). Well, DH was texting with his sisters about the Christmas Eve menu and they decided to do pasta - we would bring lasagna and baked ziti, and everyone else would do sides. SIL #1 responded that she would bring cheesy potato casserole and SIL #2 volunteered to bring Swedish meatballs.
In what alternate fucking universe do these sides go with pasta?!?! We are now doing a ham instead, and are 2 for 2 in last-minute grocery runs on the night before a holiday. Boo.
Thanks to krystee's post, I picked up a Nextfit at Target yesterday for $140!
At the rate DS is growing, I anticipate we'll be moving him out of the infant seat much sooner than we did with petite DD, so it will be nice to have a convertible seat ready to go for him.
Our coffee maker died this morning. Womp womp. Now do we buy another Mr. Coffee or splurge for a nicer one? I'm looking at a Bonavita as recommended by ATK - anyone have input on this one?
I was no longer working during my second pregnancy, so I sold all of my business casual clothes and bought some summer essentials (maxi dress, swimsuit, shorts, and tank tops) instead. I reused jeans, tees, leggings, and yoga pants from my first pregnancy.
Christmas Eve (at the ILs) - heavy apps Christmas morning (just the four of us at home) - caramel rolls, quiche, and fruit Christmas dinner (at my parents) - prime rib, shrimp scampi, twice-baked potatoes, asparagus, caesar salad, plus Christmas cookies for dessert
I sold our exersaucer and some clothes to OUAC yesterday and got $40 for it. Not bad! There was a large diaper box of clothes they passed on. Their buying strategy baffles me sometimes.
It's so bizarre. I had a bunch of NWT boys stuff given as gifts that DS was too big for (and no gift receipt so we couldn't return them) and OUAC refused everything. Yet, I always see stained, faded, pilling clothes on their racks. I don't understand why they will buy stuff that's completely trashed and pass on decent things.
We are at an indoor playground this morning and there is an old guy dressed as a clown making balloon animals for the kids. I'm sure he has a deal with the play place to do this (I heard another mom say "oh look, the balloon guy is here"), but it's a bit creepy and weird because CLOWNS.
I would get a cast iron skillet instead of a grill pan. Lodge Logic makes a really affordable one (around $20). We've had ours for over 10 years and it makes amazing pancakes, grilled cheese, quesadillas, etc.
1. Get back to a happy weight and make peace with my body 2. Run a 5k 3. Potty train DD 4. Take more pictures of DS (poor second child!) 5. Sell our house and be in a new home by the end of the year
DS is 2.5 months old and I am doing really well. I feel much more even-keeled this time around, knowing what to expect from a newborn and pp recovery. DS is a total unicorn baby - great sleeper, very content and growing like crazy (he just moved into 6 month clothes). My biggest struggles right now are with my body - nothing fits and shopping for clothes is beyond depressing. I need to get back to doing WW and working out, but the motivation is just not there, especially going into the holidays and cold winter weather. Blah.
Bonus points for a cute baby (outfit courtesy of Poeticxpassion):
I am exhausted. We hosted my parents and brother for dinner tonight in honor of my mom's birthday and I pulled out all the stops: all made-from-scratch food (including a Barefoot Contessa cake that took all morning to make), good china/crystal/flatware, floral arrangements, etc. Thankfully my mom was absolutely delighted and so appreciative of everything.
Looking forward to a foot massage from DH and an early bedtime.
It was rainy and gloomy today so we had a relaxing and productive day at home: baked Christmas cookies, did a cotton ball "snow" craft, and had a photo shoot for our Christmas card picture (we just sent birth announcements last month, so I'm not in a rush to get these out).
I've got @mrswindycity's loaded baked potato soup in the crockpot for dinner and am delegating bedtime to DH so I can go to Target ALONE.
I think it looks great. I'm actually doing the same thing with my kids' picture since it was impossible to get a 2.5 year-old and a 2.5 month-old to smile at the same time. Thank goodness for Photoshop!
DS is the same age and doesn't have a set bedtime yet; he goes to bed whenever we do (around 11ish). If I recall from DD, a real, earlier (8 or so) bedtime started evolving around 3 months.
