My husband is super annoyed that he hasn't gotten his refund yet. I filed his taxes before the end of January, and where's my refund still just says received. I really don't understand what the hold up is. I filed after and got mine back super fast. Of course, he tried to call and can't get past the automated system.
My son is a senior in HS, trying to make a decision for college. His FAFSA has not been processed yet, and May 1st is the decision deadline for a lot of schools. I think he's just going to pick the state school, but I don't know how a lot of people are supposed to make decisions with no financial aid. One of his friend's mother works in the financial aid department at a local school, and she said it's been a nightmare.
In case anyone here is in CT, FYI that CT now has an automatic acceptance program. If you are in the top 30% of your class, you are automatically accepted to 8 CT colleges, including all 4 state schools (not UCONN), and Uni of New Haven.
I was so happy for this program as my son is a senior and in a tech HS that doesn't offer any AP classes, and for some reason no Senior Honor classes either. He did take all honors classes in the previous years though. He also works through the HS, and there aren't a lot of extras so I was worried about his college application.
I know this program probably was a sigh of relief for a lot of kids. Plus no application fees at all since you are already accepted, so that was nice.
This is a fairly newish program so wanted to get the word out for the CT people.
Vanillacourage sadly passed away. I think Cjeanette, astrid and 05heel haven't been here for years. That leaves Ellie, y4m, esdreturns and me.
There has definitely been a rash of new requests to register. That usually means some nonsense is going on. In those cases I tend to reject everybody. Oopsie! (Sometimes another mod approves it first, however.)
Motion to institute a moratorium on new members until any trolls out there get bored and move on. All those in favor...🙋♀️
I'm fine with this. I can't IP ban, and I do try to figure out if the requesting user is a troll or not. I don't always get it right though lol.
Should we just leave requests pending or just flat out deny?
We have adjustable beds (split king) and I hate it as a side sleeper. You’d think it’d be convenient to watch tv or eat in bed, but by the time I’m “up”, it’s moved me so far away from my nightstand that I can’t reach anything. Womp Womp.
This might not be feasible, depends on the type of nightstand you have, but I had the same issue. My husband put little roller wheels on the legs of our nightstands so we could roll them forward. It's worked really well!
I find it very hard (pretty much impossible) to love someone I don't actually like. For example, I haven't spoken to my father in almost 6 years. I don't like him, he's a cheater and just all around a not great person. I also don't love him. IDK if it's something wrong in me, but I can't muster up love for someone who I actively dislike, even if he is my father. Same goes for my brother and my ILs. There is definitely no, I love you but don't like you going on with me.
This is something I've struggled with, especially when I was younger. The older I get, the less fucks I give.

I ran into this a month ago, and here is what I did. Get the lower price with the higher interest rate. Turn around and refinance with a credit union or whoever will give you a lower rate. The bank through the dealer wanted to charge me 8.5% and I was able to get 5.65% through a credit union. This way you get both the lower price and lower rate.
Good: DS16 is rocking high school. High honors every semester. He also has a great group of friends and even though they all went to 3 separate High Schools, they still stayed close.
Bad: Not really too bad but I think he's a little too overconfident for his driving test, and I'm worried he's going to fail. I really need him to pass lol.
Ugly: DS decided that the ortho saying he needed to wear his retainer wasn't important so his bottom teeth have shifted a lot. So now he needs braces again.
I’m exhausted so I might check in more tomorrow, but did want to share for all the parents of teens that Planet Fitness is doing free summer memberships for teens 14-19 starting May 15.
Thanks for this. My DS is planning on signing up when he gets his license (hopefully this Monday!), but now I'll have him wait a week so he can get it for free.
I got my license at 16 and shared my mom's car until I went to college. I bought my own car when I was a sophomore in college.
My son has his appointment for his license test next month. I bought myself a new (used) car, and he'll be getting my old one. Once he's 18, I'll sign it over to him.
If you like Supernatural, I really enjoyed Locke and Key on Netflix. Seasons 1 and 2 have 10 episodes, and season 3 has 8. It's only the 3 seasons as well. Fair warning, I haven't gotten around to watching the 3rd season yet.
My DS is a junior. I'm pretty worried he's not going to get into the state schools here. His grades are excellent (high honors every quarters), but no honors society, not much in the way of extras, and I don't think he got great SAT scores. He works and is in the movie club. Community college is free in our state for first time students so I think that might be a better idea for him. He's in trade HS so he's been pretty wishy washy about college until recently. It's very stressful though!
My son has both a debit card for his own checking account since he works and a credit card. I added him as an authorized user to my oldest card which I've had for over 20 years. I do make him keep the CC on him in case of emergencies though, especially once he gets his license in May.
I did see her post, but Concerta is made by a different manufacturer (I think?) so I wasn't sure. Their website isn't super clear, just says you need insurance. I'm just going to have the pharmacy run it and see.
When I go to concerta’s site it has a lot of info for the savings card that automatically pops up for me.
Eligible patients using commercial or private insurance can save on out-of-pocket costs for CONCERTA®. Eligible patients pay an initial $4 per fill at participating retail pharmacies and receive up to $150 off their out-of-pocket prescription costs, with a maximum program benefit of $1,800 or 12 fills per calendar year, whichever comes first. Not valid for patients using Medicare, Medicaid, or other government-funded programs to pay for their medications. Terms expire at the end of each calendar year and may change. Offer not valid in CA and MA. There is no income requirement. See program requirements below.
There is a lot more I don’t want to copy and paste but specific to insurance
This program is only available to individuals age 6 to 65 using commercial or private health insurance for their Janssen medication, including plans available through state and federal healthcare exchanges. This program is not available to individuals who use any state or federal government-funded healthcare program to cover a portion of medication costs, such as Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, Department of Defense, or Veterans Administration.
I think as long as you have insurance you can use the card. Doesn’t matter if your insurance covers it or not as long as you have insurance. Then it would take $150 off the out of pocket cost. for me that was still very expensive but still better than paying full price if I had to get the brand.
That's how I read it as well, and I'm certainly hoping that's the case. It's $500 cash price so $150 off that would be great. GoodRx is $427 so worse case, I'll do that.
Not Adderall related, but doesn't anyone know if you can use the Concerta savings card if you have insurance but insurance won't cover it? My insurance just stopped covering this for my son, and it works so well for him. Cash price is over $400/month with no insurance though and that's not sustainable.
Dealing with shortages and insurance for meds is just so frustrating.

And you know there is always more to the story, right. My husband's napping has been a point of contention in our marriage for many years. He naps every day, regardless of if he slept 6 hours the previous night or 11. Yesterday he slept in AND had already taken a nap before lunch. So when I heard he fell asleep again I was upset. And yes he had had a drink (been drinking?) before falling asleep. So yeah. We argued about it last night. He says my expectations for him are too high. I said it can't get much lower than "stay awake".
And of course overnight both him and our youngest daughter came down with an awful stomach bug. He especially is pretty sick today. So that probably contributed to what happened last night. And like I said earlier, the other mom wasn't even phased by it. So maybe I am just the asshole this time?
Anyway, there's a lot of baggage and history here, so I do appreciate the perspectives with those factors removed.
This is a large part of why I left my Ex-H. Our marriage ended a few months after I got home one day with my oldest DS to find my youngest DS locked out of the house with my Ex-H sleeping on the couch. Ex didn't even really wake up when I was screaming at him. He also liked to drink and refused to get tested for sleep apnea.
I would also be very angry that he was drinking while being the only adult during a play date, but I admit I am much more uptight about alcohol than most people. I'm sorry you are dealing with this.
LOL, it is expensive here. But I do think if we think about climate change, CT is probably going to end up being a good state to be in. Friday and Saturday really had me wanting to be down south though.
As of right now, my H and I have no plans to move upon retirement, assuming we can actually afford to retire. I'm guessing costs are going to drive us out of CT, but we still have more than 20 years to go so we haven't really discussed it.
I am so sick of people pointing out the obvious. I have a giant cold sore, bigger than I've gotten in a while. My mom came over yesterday, looked at me, and said "geez that's a big one". Like no crap, I have mirrors. I admit that this bothers me because I feel completely self-conscious when I have one. I've also been getting them much more frequently in the past 3 years where before I only got them maybe once a year or less. I'm still annoyed about it even though I shouldn't be.
I'm sorry, that sounds exactly like my mother.
I love my teledoc app b/c i get a valtrex prescription in a few hours. Sometimes they'll give me a refill so I have one on hand for the next time.
Oh that's a good idea, I'll have to look into that. I have a hard time taking the Valtrex because it's so big (even cut in half I have trouble), but I think it's time to start taking it. Thanks!

People are so fucking rude. A few years ago I had a huge issue with angular cheilitis on my lip which hurt like a mother fucker and is exacerbated by stress. Not only did I know it was there but it had become like the single most annoying thing in my life. I had a neighbor who was basically a STRANGER try to give me herpes tips. I was like...first of all...it's not that. Second, I'm working with a doctor on it. Third, you're being so fucking rude.

This makes me glad my 16 yo ds has no interest in driving! He did get his permit, but hasn't driven any of the hours required to take the actual driving test.
So my son isn't the only one? I don't get it! He has his permit and is in drivers ed, but has almost zero interest in driving. I couldn't wait to get my license when I was a teen.
My insurance didn't go up at all when I added him, but I think it's because he only has a permit. I'm not looking forward to the rates after, I'm guessing they are going to increase by at least $300/month.
This may be a ridiculous suggestion but I've been seeing on TikTok that using head and shoulders shampoo as face wash can rid people of acne. Has anyone tried that? It sounds crazy but people are swearing it works.
This only works if you have fungal acne. I'm still not very clear on how to tell the difference, but if you aren't sure, it's worth giving it a shot.
