My feelings about retirement have really shifted in the past year. I can’t see ever retiring and I want to pull the funds (or simply stop contributing) and use that money to enjoy life now. I have not done that yet but it’s been hard resisting. H and I have had serious conversations about it and about how we’re sure we’ll never retire. At 44 that’s kind of bleak.
I went to the PSA show in Philly last night and they mentioned how 45’s tweets contaminated the NY terror attack jury pool. He needs to get off Twitter but he won’t so I basically expect 7 more years if this bullshit.
WTF fellow Gen Xers? We’re of the same opinion as the Boomers? I just can’t even. No! Men do not have it harder.
I’m really surprised by that because my rose colored glasses on this issue have really fallen off in the past few years as I look around and go “Oh, so this is it for me career wise...ok” and meanwhile H still has a good 15 years before he starts bumping into age discrimination.
I’d be interested in seeing this redone in a few years because I think the millennial date a leading indicator on this opinion and I hope the rest of us catch up. Quickly.
This is awful. He’s from DE. Fled to Wilmington and they’ve connected him to another shooting in the north east corner of Wilmington. Two school districts are on soft lockdown. I had to call my kids school and have my H call too to get our school on lockdown.l (catholic but should follow actions of first school district).
Second shooting location was car dealership and based on location he’s probably fleeing north towards Philly.
Th re was a thing at a Dane Cook show a few years back where he mocked some woman about rape or assault. Like she didn’t get the joke. I can’t recall the details but remember it being posted here.
I was going thru the photos from the conference and found picture of me giving my presentation.
Strangely, I like this photo. Not sure why.
Because you look like you know your shit! Not that I doubted it, but the picture exudes confidence.
That was exactly what I thought on seeing that picture. It’s like a stock photo of a professional woman giving a presentation.
My good news. I haven’t had a headache in over a week (!) so I guess it was rebound headaches. Still need to schedule the MRI. Working on adding exercise this week to see if exertion is the trigger.
Grandparents are asking for Christmas lists (whut) and I haven't the foggiest. We have so many toys and none of them hold our kids' interest. I'm asking for an ABC Mouse subscription for DS and museum memberships but what else?
What does your 3.5 yo and 18 mo old play with?
18 months was Duplos and Little People.
3.5 was when DS2 started asking for Miles from Tomorrowland stuff. He didn’t get it until 4.5 which was too old really.
This reminds me of the story out recently of a boy getting kidnapped and the kidnappers dropped him off somewhere because he was so annoying. I swear I read this recently.
We babysat a kid last week that my husband would have paid money to get rid of. I forgot how annoying he was when it was just my kids this weekend. H finally took mercy on my nerves and took them to the park for a couple hours.
I spent a small fortune on Halloween and All Saint Day costumes for DS1 and DS2. This morning I was telling DS1 about all the awesome stuff going on this week (bake sale, dress down day, half day, Friday off, our own Halloween party with a face painter at our house) and mentioned it’s also my birthday Friday. Tears and drama. Why is it my birthday, why isn’t it his birthday? OMG no you ungrateful shit!
U.S. President Donald Trump struck a blow against the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement on Friday in defiance of other world powers, choosing not to certify that Tehran is complying with the deal in a major reversal of U.S. policy. Trump made the announcement in a speech that detailed a more confrontational approach to Iran over its nuclear and ballistic missile programs and its support for extremist groups in the Middle East. "Today I am announcing our strategy along with several major steps we're taking to confront the Iranian regime's hostile actions and to ensure that Iran never -- and I mean never -- acquires a nuclear weapon," Trump said.
Wasn't he getting mostly (unanimous ?) advice to stay with Iran agreement from his babysitters? He just likes to do wtf ever he wants and feel important as he declares it a terrible deal. It's so frustrating to have this bloody idiot making any decisions more important than dessert serving size.
Yes. The advice to certify was pretty much universal. Apparently he has a stick up his whatever about this one (anything really) because Obama gets credit for it. I’m sure if he did the Iran deal it’d be bigly huge. The best deal ever. But since he didn’t, he’s destroying it for funsies.
I’m off today so fuck it. I’m opening a nice bottle of red and drinking myself stupid.
We have 5 days/4 nights in Europe in November (over Thanksgiving). Our original plans were cancelled so I’m thinking about doing Paris/Normandy/Disneyland Paris. Has anyone been? Is it worth it? We have WDW plans for Nov/Dec 2018.
My boys will be almost 5 and almost 7 if we went I. November (so this is kind of their birthday present). And would we be nuts to go on Thanksgiving itself? Thanks!
DS1 is home sick today. Fever keeps popping up to 102 so he’s probably out the rest of the week at this rate.
His school is hit and miss on communication and I really want to push the issue. He *may* have to wear a costume for All Saints Day (Nov 1). Of course there has been zero communication on this yet. I’m ordering Halloween costumes now and want to knock this out at the same time. Not like I’m crafty enough to whip up a St Michael the Archangel costume last minute. Ugh. So I’m starting a google doc with a bunch of the other parents so we can get this institutional knowledge out of the institution and into someplace functional for the parents.
I was able to lightly insert politics into a few conversations lately. Just touching on a couple issues, getting people clues in a bit without having them tune out or turning them off. I was pretty proud of myself.
Also, my bookclub met last night and a couple women were missing. It changed the group dynamic a bit and we ended up having a fantastic time. So much laughter. Not sure if it was the missing members or just a fun night.
Oh, and one of women had no clue who Jason Momoa was (and I swear to all that is holy if this place ruins him for me...) so we just had to bring up JM pics and clue her in.
What do you use for podcast listening? I’m not liking the new iTunes podcast app but I’m also not a fan of the Stitcher interface.
I use Google Play Music but that might not be an option if you have an iPhone. I also found Stitcher to be confusing.
Thank you. I saw the stitcher rec in the iOS update thread so I tried it and it made me feel like a confused old person. Which may be accurate but glad to see I have company in my confusion.
I’m trying to schedule two radiology appointments and a scheduler was supposed to call with 48 hours. Insert the “well, we’re all waiting” gif. One is for a MRI to get to the bottom of my migraines. And I’m off pain meds totally for two weeks to rule out rebound migraines. It’s a good time all around.
On the upside I ditched work for a couple hours and got pizza and then fro yo for lunch.
Ugh. My H is Fed and he’s so chill about this whole nightmare administration and meanwhile I’m chicken little. He loves his job but if he gets s decent private sector offer and these benefit changes occur, I bet he’d leave. And he’s good at his job. We all want him there doing his job. It benefits society as a whole. He’s not a drain, he’s a productive, hard worker who is always looking to do something better and more efficiently. I hate that Feds get labeled as moochers. I bet their productivity is similar to private sector employees
And can you imagine the strain of all that work falling on a smaller pool of people? And who is going to backfill these roles, if they are allowed to hire for them?
I didn’t realize this wasn’t known known already. Or maybe the blinds were so obvious I thought it was simply stated. He’s beyond gross.
Years ago I ended up at a party at his (or maybe his brother’s) former apartment. Whichever one of them owned it and had simply given it to their sister-in-law. I went to the party basically just to see the apartment (which rally want all that awesome).
I make those bacon wrapped potatoes and they go like hot cakes. When I’m lazy and just making them for myself I don’t bother with wrapping the bacon. I just chop everything up and bake it on a sheet.
I get that he said a sexist comment but I’m also wondering if the sponsors are using this as cover to drop him. Not at al excusing what he said I just don’t know if another athlete would suffer the same consequences.
My company banned all smoking on site - even in private vehicles parked on site. I’m not sure if it is global or just in the US but I’ll be happy to walk into my next meeting in NYC without having to walk through the smoking court. Pushback is as expected but I’m glad to see this expanding out from the medical community (our local hospital network doesn’t allow smoking on their premises either).
WOT?*, Now I really want to have a bowling alley wedding. That sounds like a fantastic time.
I will say that my mother was all in her opinions about each of her daughter's weddings. We largely ignored her. H and I even hired a wedding coordinator largely to handle my mom on the wedding day. My husband actually has a good relationship with my mom but I wonder how she'd be if she had a DIL.
My sister is burning her wedding stuff this weekend (I think, she may just be burning the photos and donating the dress). I'm hoping this brings her peace...that's not quite the right word, maybe closure. So I'm off for a GNO to burn things on Saturday. I've been mentally chanting "Fire. Fire".
