WHY would anyone pick up hitchhikers with their baby in the car?!?!
But the cop did illegally search her car. And the cop is supposed to allow a relative to pick up the baby. Pretty shitty that he didn't follow his rules, IMO.

According to her. I wouldn't be surprised if there was more to the story.
Ditto, Statler. I just don't believe her. Also, if the officer smelled weed, is that probable cause for a search? Is it possible Snickerdoodle gave permission and she didn't realize it?
The houseless thing comes from her earlier posts where she talked of them living in the damn car or a field or some shit and she said, oh, I'm not homeless. We're houseless because we're choosing not to live in a house.
I saw this on another board and read that post but can someone give me cliff notes on her deal and what the houseless thing means?
"Houseless" is a term used by displaced people. The consider where they live their "home", whether it's an SRO, under an overpass, etc., so they feel the term "homeless" doesn't fit for them. We have lots of houseless folks in Portland because there are several SRO's and lots of wooded areas where camps of people live - the biggest one being across the street from Nike world headquarters (how ironic).

She and Checkers are full time mooches. I'm amazed so many of their friends and family (enablers) have offered their homes to them. I really hope they learned something from their mandated parenting course (especially hygiene). I wonder if CPS be called to the hospital when Indiana Jones is born.
What a train wreck. I have read a few months worth of posts, but haven't come across the hygiene (or lack of hygiene, rather) info. Can anyone point me to a post?
Check out Checker's teeth on page 5. "Brushes them once or twice a year" I hope is an exaggeration. And there's a post with Sunny feeding herself and her pajamas are just grimy from crawling/toddling on dirty floors. She was diagnosed with torticullis after she was removed from their care (somewhere between 7-10 months); you could see the issue just looking at her but they figured "she'd grow out of it." All sorts of young/stupid/pothead brilliance.

If they drove an illegal substance across state lines with a child in the car, this is child endangerment and the cop has an obligation to call CPS. If they have reason to remove the child from the parents, they always ask if they have a friend or relative who the child can stay with, but they have to run a record check on them first. Sounds like she doesn't have any family or appropriate friends. She mentions not having family in the area. I believe there is waaaaay more to the story than she cares to share, though. I don't know about Oregon, but in TX, there has to be imminent danger to the child for them to be removed, and the state must obtain a court order.
If they are both getting arrested and she has no family in the area what should be happening to the baby? You can't care for your baby in a jail cell w/o supplies and they aren't going to allow those in the cell. You can't just evade arrest by holding your baby.
If OR is similar to WA, they don't need an immediate court order (and I assume TX works similarly). If there is cause to believe imminent danger they can remove the child for up to 72 hours to remove the child from the danger and to permit an investigation and proceed to court for removal of the child and placement with CPS. If she doesn't have family in the area, the child will be placed with a licensed foster caregiver. If there are drugs in the car, that is an immediate cause for arrest and placement of the child with CPS pending processing. The police aren't babysitters and can't watch the kid while the parents sit in a cell. They can't put the kid in a cell, either. CPS is the "babysitter" when the parents have to be removed and there isn't a relative caregiver to take the child.
Basically, they are committing a crime with a child present, which places the child in immediate danger. The child needs to be removed from the threat until the threat is mitigated, eliminated or resolved. Enter CPS.
