After yesterday's weight gain thread I decided to help Luke out with some egg and cheese for breakfast. I know it's dumb of me not to introduce them separately but I didn't. He has had egg yolk once and a little shredded cheese before but he ate more this time and I gave him the whole scrambled egg.
His face got red after eating it but he has eczema and we didn't put lotion on him last night so that could be related to the egg or not.
He cried before his nap then finally fell asleep. I was laying next to him and he started vomiting a lot. Everywhere the vomit got ended up being splotchy red (his neck and back of head) and he was scratching his face (he does that with eczema sometimes too). I just gave him some antihisthamine (RX from dermatologist) to help with the itching and he's sleeping again (I'm laying with him to keep an eye on his breathing and vomiting)
I'm going to hold off on eggs again for a little but is this how your egg allergy showed up?
Poor thing! :(My pedi was really hardcore about us getting Luke to have an egg before the flu shot. She wanted him to have both the white and the yolk separately. My understanding is that the protein is different between the two so maybe he is allergic to the egg white? It definitely sounds like an allergic reaction of some sort and you did the right thing with the antihistamine.
thanks this is just very nervewracking. I'll try to introduce them separately again in a few weeks. I hope it's just a random reaction of eating too much at once (he ate probably half an egg and a lot of shredded cheese).
I never thought being a mom would cause me this much anxiety.

Lola is correct that you can be allergic to the yolk or whites or both. H gets bad diarrhea from egg baked in things, has tested positive for an allergy, and puked when I tried giving her no yolk egg noodles about 6mos ago. She has always done o.k. with the flu shot. She had her first flu shot before we knew of the allergy and has never had straight egg. I would avoid all egg and dairy and start over with them in a few months. If it is an allergy it is important for the gut to heal before trying again. It sucks.

I know how scary it is and I'm sorry, it sucks. I would hold off on any reintroduction for a while. Reactions can become more severe with each exposure. If I had to guess, I would say the egg white is the issue. If his skin was reacting to touching the vomit, I would def think allergy. Maybe talk to your pedi to see what they suggest. We had bloodwork done yesterday for RAST testing and we also saw a pediatric allergist when we thought she had a reaction to dairy. Good luck! And listen to Ruby
