I'm so sorry. I can't even imagine having a pet for that long and losing him. Our family dog was 14 and I was devastated when she had to be put to sleep last year.
24 is a really good life span for a smaller bird! My sister's cockatiel lived for about 15 or so. I had two that only lived about a year each. One had an ulcer in his mouth so he couldn't eat. I knew something was wrong with him but my parent's brushed it off (I was in like, middle school so I couldn't really do anything myself). They ended up rushing him to the vet while I was at my aunt's house one night but there wasn't much they could do at that point. I'm not sure why the other one died so early.
Anyways, cockatiels are great birds, and I'm sorry to hear the news about yours Hugs!
I think the max is 30 years but I think 15 is probably more average...I'm so sorry you lost yours so soon. My sister had one that lived about 6 years. I think 24 is very good, BUT, any day less then forever still sucks for any pet that you love

Awww I'm so sorry. FWIW, we haven't had any of our dogs live that long. We had a mutt that died at age 9...our family sheltie died the morning after my wedding (in the hotel where we had the reception) at age 11...and no our family golden retriever at age 10 doesn't seem to be doing great. It's really crazy that we kept a bird to 24 (my math is actually a bit off, he's actually days away from his 25th birthday). The age of 14 is a great life for dog, but it would still devastate me. The attachment is just so strong...it really feels unbearable. Thanks for understanding
