Fun post! My unpopular opinions are: 1. I love wall to wall carpeting in bedrooms and family rooms. It is so much cozier, homey-er, and warmer. (however i do prefer hardwoods in a dining room, formal living room, or open concept great room) 2. I don't get the hate for mass produced art. I get not wanting your home to look like a generic apartment leasing office or something if that is all you have on your walls, but I see nothing wrong with a combination of original/"real"/one of a kind art, personal photos, other meaningful things, mixed with some mass produced generic stuff that just looks pretty.
I don't live visible televisions in my house (however not everyone has this luxury). We are the weird people that have a giant great room and don't use it as our main family room, therefore we don't have (well, will not have once we have furniture in it) a TV in the great room.
We use our sunroom, and our TV is tucked in our corner so you see it when you are watching it.
I will say having a great room comes in handy when you have large families and entertain a lot. We refer to it as our banquet hall. We've had four dinners with over 30 people since October and have 3 more planned through May. We set up tables and chairs in there and everyone has a place to sit.
I love that you can have an entertaining space without a TV, and that you have an entertaining space. I love that you call it the banquet hall.
I have my tv on all the time, but I wish that it could be less visible when people are over.
