“Life is not orderly. No matter how we try to make it so, right in the middle of it lose a leg, fall in love, drop a jar of applesauce.” - Natalie Goldberg
Not dirt poor by any means but nest poor I guess. My father was an engineer but my mom SAH. There are three kids so my father alone did not make enough to pay cash for our college educations and buy us everything in the world. We were just a regular family I guess.

We are doing well now, but I have been dirt poor.
I went to community daycare (read: subsidized) where the children were the recipients of a Christmas toy drive one year. I feel guilty about this now because I had plenty of toys from my paternal grandparents.
Yeah, my mom and stepfather are pretty poor. They have no retirement savings and live with my grandma who has dimentia in a tiny little prefab home. After my parents divorce, we lived pretty poor with my mom. My dad wanted and fought for custody, but it was almost impossible for that to happen as long as we were clothed and fed.
My dad and step-mom are middle class. They have an older but decent size home, drive toyotas and go on vacations every year. Normal, not rich or poor.
