Would you install infant car seat in the middle, utilizing the seat belt OR by a window utilizing the latch system? The latches on my car are spaced too far apart to be utilized for the middle seat ...
Also, if you use the latch, is it common to have a little wiggle room? I guess I was expecting it to be tighter fit then I have right now, and not sure if I'm doing it wrong ...
What kind of car do you drive? I thought all cars had to have latches for all seats.
Anyway, that is a tough question. I'm definitely a middle seat advocate, Quinn still sits in the middle, but I believe the latch system is safer. And no, there is no wiggle room with a latch, at least not anything significant. Can you get your install checked out, fire stations and other places do that.
We have the car seat on the passenger side with the latch system. H installed it and I took it to the fire house and had it inspected. He said it was perfect. Then he took it out and showed me how to put it in. To get it tighter he pushed it hard with his knee while tightening the strap to get rid of all the wiggle room. I'd definitely recommend checking out the local inspection services, just for the peace of mind.
I have a 09 Camry. There's four latches in the back seat. The latches on the base reach if I do it on a window seat, but there not long enough if I position the base in the middle. The tightening strap isn't pulling anymore, but I may have try a knee (or have my husband try a knee when he gets home if I can't get it tighter. Definitely planning on having it checked out
I have a Ford Explorer, the middle does not have LATCH. My fire department said their preference was to have it in the middle even though I don't have LATCH there. I'm all about having it either inspected or put in by the fire dept or hospital folks.
Two car seats, and when we had one bucket style, one was in the middle, but we never used LATCH (we have an older car and I'm not sure we have LATCH). Then we have one behind each seat, now that we have two convertible style.
