How long before your babies crawled did they "assume the position" and get up on all fours? DD has been doing this for probably a week and a half, but has no idea what to do from there. Instead she just starts crying because she is frustrated that she can't get where she wants to go and also is in this new, weird position. I feel like she will be a much happier baby once she turns mobile!

it took about a month for h to go from rocking on all fours to quickly crawling. There was week or two of army crawling in between. Dd is definitely happier crawling, but now I can't get anything done bc she's in to things the second I leave the room. Quite the double edge sword.
Saturday. So 7 months and 4 days. She had been crawling like 2 strides and then lunging for like a week before that, but I'm not counting that as true crawling.
ETA: She's been scooting all over the place (dragging her body) since maybe 5.5 months.

They figured it out very quickly after that, like days. If she gets really frustrated by it, you could always show her what to do by helping her move her arms and legs to figure the rhythm out.
That is, assuming you actually want her to be mobile It's a lot easier when you can just plop them down and expect them to stay there. With my first, I was so excited by the prospect of his learning to crawl that I would put a toy in front of him to try to motivate him to do it. With my second, I was much more content to just let him learn at his own pace.
