DD's hair is starting to really grow out this year, and unlike me as a baby, she has tons (tons!) of ringlets.
People comment on her hair frequently and ask if I think the curls will stay...and it's made me wonder what the norm is (or even if there is one for a Caucasian kid.) I have no idea whether the curls will stay or eventually straighten out. What say you, MMM? If you or your baby have/had curly hair, did it start that way? Did the curls stay?
I'd really love it if they'd stay...it's hard to imagine her w/o them. On the other hand, if it straightens out, it's probably good for DD because I have no idea what I'm doing with curly hair, poor girl.
DD has curly hair. She's 2.5 and I don't know if it will stick, but I will say her hair looks exactly like mine did at her age and I have very curly hair as an adult.
For me: Started off curly, went straight when I was around 3, and then got super curly/frizzy again around 11-12. It has been curly ever since (but for the fact I straighten it).
For DD: Started off straight, but started curling around 8 months as it got longer. She has really tight curls now at 25 months.
DD1 started straight, got super curly at around 8mo, was super curly until 5ish....now it's just wavy at 8.5. Her curls were adorable but I wouldn't wish her hair on anyone. It is incredibly knot prone & hard to manage. I was so sick of making her cry every time I tried to brush it.
DD2. Some curls until about 4-5 but not as super curly as DD1s. It's pretty stick straight now at 6.
My girls had curls as babies and toddlers, but the curls disappeared after their first real haircut at 3. I remember that multiple people asked me if I permed their hair when they were toddlers.

It seems like babies whose hair only curls at the ends, it usually dissapears when it's cut. But if it is curly all over the head, it usually stays. I have naturally curly hair and it started with little curls as soon as my hair started growing , but 1 1/2 I had curls all over my head.

My hair only curled at the ends when I was a toddler and it stuck--just to play devil's advocate.

My niece had amazing, adorable ringlets as a baby. My daughter also had some wave to her hair. Both lost them as they got older, especially after their first haircut.
My hair, on the other hand, started straighter as an infant, got curly as a toddler and stayed that way until I was in my mid 20's, then started growing in straighter again. Still have some slight wave, but nowhere near the curls I did in elementary school!
DD started out straight as an infant but now has super curly hair. Being that both DH and I have (naturally) curly hair (I straighten it, and DH is bald), our moms have curly hair, and various siblings have curly hair, its a safe bet to say it will stay curly.

My hair was curly until I was about 6, then it got wavy, then got curly again at about 16.
Both of my kids have curls now, but DS's are much tighter than DD's. I wouldn't be surprised if hers straightened out.
What kills me is that my ILs take credit for my kids' curls when I'm sitting right there with my curly head, next to stick-straight DH. Seriously? I've seen his baby pictures. He had one curl for about 6 months, people.

My MIL is like this. She has talked about how much DD looks like my husband since she was born. She looks almost exactly like me; I have put her baby photos side by side with mine because the resemblance is so ridiculously uncanny. Recently she said "You know, CS, I think DD is starting to look more like you." Okay.

I had ringlets has a toddler. As an adult, I have somewhat curly hair. The shorter my hair is the more curly it is because of how thick and heavy my hair is.
