My DD1 & 2, DH & I all have "Yale" names. We all went(or currently go) by nicknames that are far less common. Best of both worlds to me
DD3 has a more unusual first name but goes by a Yale NN & her middle is a Yale name. So I guess that close enough.
Now I'm feeling bad that neither of DD4s names are on the Yale list...lol. Her MN I'd definitely old lady ish but also pretty classic. In still on the fence about her first name--DH likes it but it seems 1980s to me.
My sister has an old-ladyish name that started becoming super-trendy a few years ago. I have an old lady name that's remained an old lady name. Lucky sis.
My kids names did not make and of the lists but DD1 is pretty common. DD2 is to names together so if there is another around here they are probably named after her.

I disagree with the supreme court justice test. Names evolve over time. Hilary used to be in the same family as Brittany to me, but now it would definitely pass the president test. There was a congresswoman that went by Gabby. And there was a supreme court judge in Canada called Desiree (French name but can sound stripper-ish to some) However, nobody is going to take a resume from "Pilot Inspektor" seriously. But I think London or Paris or Brooklyn could be senators.
London, Paris (enjoy your future life as strippers, babies) Jayla, Kayla ("Jayla" is a name?) Jayda, Jayden (yeah, good luck differentiating between the two when you're yelling for them) Christian, Christopher (both perfectly nice names, but who gets to be "Chris"?)
Maybe Christopher would go by Topher? Or by their middle names? Or full first names?
What I got out of the Freakonomics chapter was that my husband and I both have names that reflect a "high level" of maternal education. Go mom and MIL! Similar to what others said about some of those names being popular today - my husband's name was 400-something on the SS list the year he was born and now it's in the top 50 for baby boys. It's pretty trendy!
