Last night H and I watched some barbecue show on the Travel channel, and now I want to go on a barbecue road trip! Starting with Memphis in May, but not until next May. MEMPHIS 2014 GTG!!!!
I am bent out of shape about an e-mail our HR Director sent announcing that we will have a half day tomorrow.
"In order to allow everyone to get a jump start on your Easter weekend..."
Everyone? Seriously? An HR Director of a fairly large organization should know that not everyone celebrates Easter. I'm happy about the half day, and think he could have just phrased this better. Am I unreasonable? I haven't said anything about it to him, just privately vented.
Background - My father is Jewish, I am not at all religious, and it's freaking Kentucky where they just assume that everyone is Christian.
Easter is fairly secular at this point. You're being nutso.
this morning, we met with the people about turning our shed into a pool house. we're strict on the budget, so i was expecting something that was, like, serviceable.
IT'S GOING TO BE GORGEOUS. omg. i'm so psyched. i want to move out there.
also, and this is hilarious to me, it will be finished at the end of september. when pool season is over. ha ha ha.
also, i'm jealous of kevin.
also, there's no fucking way i'm reading booby's blog. i've worked a billion hours already this week and am tired and crazed. it will send me over the edge.

Do you know any Jewish families who have the Easter bunny come? Because I don't think there are many. But I'm welcome to be proven wrong.

We get either Yom Kippur or Rosh Hashana off each year, and I love it. It would never occur to me to complain about an email giving us a half day to get started on our Rosh Hashana observance.
Yeah.
I'm not going to get pissed off at Wal-Mart for selling kwanza cards, you know?
Unless someone is discriminating against you, why get upset?

I'm not objecting to the half day at all. Just to the phrasing of "everyone." If it had said, "We will be closing at noon on Friday for Easter weekend" I would have had absolutely no objections.
But maybe I'm ultra-sensitive to this, considering that one of my coworkers saw no problem with having an event with people from all over the country on Yom Kippur that served only pork bbq.

Even if you don't celebrate Easter, it's still Easter weekend.

but, it's still easter weekend EVEN IF you're not celebrating. like, even if i hate trees if someone is all "hey everyone, we're leaving at noon for arbor day" i'm like "aces, bro." because the calendar just . . . is.
OK - the consensus seems to be that I'm overreacting - which is fine, I've always been open to that possibility. But does anyone see the distinction that I'm trying to make, perhaps badly? The fact that we have an half day for Easter weekend = fine. The fact that the e-mail said so that "everyone can get a jump start on Easter celebration" = maybe could have been worded slightly differently?

sure, it could've. agreeing that you're overreacting doesn't mean the email couldn't have been improved upon.
maybe reply all with "awesome! i'm spending the weekend reading the torah and waiting for the first visit from the messiah!"
Yes! My husband was so annoyed by my preening the other night in my new bra that he told me to put my shirt on and knock it off. Lol. I think the skipping sent him over the edge.
I did buy the Natori bra I tried on there for like $70, but I bought one in another color on Amazon for $50. If you find a brand you like you can get discounts at Nordstrom Rack and 6PM.com, among other places.

I can't wait for December, when more than Toepick are upset when there are numerous "Get the Christmas holiday off to an early start" emails and announcements going around :-)
HR should have known better.
We get Good Friday off, and I really have no idea why.
