ETA: It took DH at least 12 years to figure out that Nonfat Milk and Skim Milk were the same thing. I used to get the phone call "They don't have skim milk, only non-fat, do you want me to go to some other store?" or "I couldn't remember if you wanted skim or non-fat, so I bought both".
He doesn't go often, but when he goes he just gets too much. Lol.
I sent him for crackers and cleaning supplies this am and he came back with this.
Yes! This is totally, totally H. I love him, and he is really smart so I'm not trying to make him sound like a dumbass but OMG, he always overbuys. And he also ALWAYS come back with some random kitchen gadget. He never cooks. It's so fucking funny.
And I'm like "how much did you spend?" He's all "oh, $60." I'm like "I sent you for almond milk and pledge!"
OMG. The kitchen gadget thing. It's like he thinks he's at the hardware store or something.
About twice a year, my husband who watches the Food Network like it's his job, will decide he needs to cook a recipe. Generally he'll print something out, I'll look at it and say it doesn't sound very good. So he'll decide to make it himself. His recipes are wicked expensive- invariably they require the purchase of sexy new equipment because Alton or Emeril used it. A trip to the grocery store for a pot roast invariably means he needed a food mill or a ricer. Last week he argued with me because he wanted to roast veggies and swore to me the enameled pan I use to roast chicken isn't a real roasting pan and that the jelly roll or lasagna pan I use to roast veggies won't work for his recipe. And his recipes always require several fresh herbs at $3 a bunch or $10 in dried exotic mushrooms as well as a bottle or two of drinkable wine. And when he's done, it always tastes about as bad as I thought it would.
No, he does at least half of our shopping. And he's more likely to bring home fun treats or new things to try than I am. We both like to cook, though, so he pretty much knows what we need/use.
No, actually H does most of the grocery shopping in our house. He's the one that does all the cooking, so it makes sense that he shops for it. I will often times come along as well, but he does fine on his own. He always complains that when I come, it takes longer because I get side-tracked buy things that are NOT ON THE LIST lol
Yes. He forgets to put half the things on the list, especially things he uses but I do not, so that when we are at the store he asks me if we need X, and I say, "I have no idea. It isn't on the list."
When I go by myself, which is most of the time, he typically asks about two or three things that were not on the list. I have to make a second trip, after which he remembers still more items.
DUDE. THIS IS WHY I MAKE A LIST AND ASK YOU TO CHECK IT.
No, he's pretty good at it but whenever he brings home something not on the list his defense is "But it was on sale!"
I use the sale defense a lot. It drives H nutty.
"It is nonperishable! I will use three cans of soup in three weeks, but if I bought one a week for three weeks at the full price, it would cost seventy five cents more!"
He does ok but doesn't care about prices which sucks. He also seems to think for every piece of food there must be a candy or junk item to counter act it.
