Is anyone watching this? I just caught up on the first two episodes. I'm still feeling it out but I like it so far. It is a little weird - as to be expected - with enmeshed relationship that exists between Norman and his mother, which makes it semi uncomfortable, but fascinating at the same time.
I caught some sort of marathon the other day - but was confused cause I think I was seeing episodes out of order. The premise seems interesting but I couldn't really figure out what was going on.
I'm still undecided, but I am liking it more than not.
One small thing that bothers me is that I get it's set in modern times, but that aspect also seems a little confusing because it's almost like half modern, half not. Like there's cell phones, most of Norman's classmates seem to fit in modern times, but then you look at the way Norman, his mother, and Norman's teacher dress and it seems very 60s.

I thought the same thing. I don't know that I really like it set in modern times. I would think that with modern technology, DNA testing and the like it would be a lot easier to link evidence of Norma and Norman murdering that guy (and I'm assuming she murdered her husband too but was able to collect insurance money?)than if it were set in the 50's or 60's.
I also didn't expect it to take the turn it did as in it seems like the whole town is corrupt and everyone there has a secret. It kind of makes The Bates seem more "normal." I'm such a huge fan of the original movie I have a hard time with this.
I agree. I can't get it out of my head that Norman wouldn't have been a teenager in 2013 and to me, that changes a lot. Maybe that's why they kind of blend in the 50's/60's, to try and give it more of a link. I might be reaching there though.
And I semi missed the last few minutes of the last episode, but from what I put together, I get what you are saying about everyone in that town being corrupt and by comparison Norman doesn't seem that odd... Are they implying the town shaped him to become what we saw in the movie? I'm not super well versed in the original movie, I've maybe seen it once or twice, but still, it's one of those movies that is SUCH a classic, I think adding detailed that result in venturing too far off from what we know the movie to be is risky.
