Pretty similar to what we're doing - an excessive amount of candy and smaller gifts to go along with it. We didn't ever do egg hunts, but DH's family does so we'll do that too. Luckily we live near the in-laws, so we'll just go to their house in the morning for that part.
My mother is Catholic and my dad is Greek Orthodox. I like the Greeks' celebration more...it always takes place on a driveway or in a garage or back porch with all the men surrounding the cooking spitted lamb. Love it! Way more festive.

My parents seemed to go more all out for Easter than Christmas. I've decided it was related to tax refunds. The basket was mostly candy, but I got a bike one year.
I'm failing L though. I didnt get to Target tonight until 7pm. No peeps. No jelly beans. No chocolate bunnies. No cadbury eggs. No basket. Omg. They were wiped out. Her plastic eggs will be filled with regular m&Ms and Easter shaped marshmallows.

Did you see the $15 or less basket post I just did? That is pretty much what my Easter Baskets were like growing up. I'm not big on Easter and I dont think my parents were either lol!
You know, I had a really shitty childhood and I moved in with my dad when I was 8 and holidays were pretty much non-existent after that but when I lived with my mom in those early years, she really made things special. She had three kids and not a whole lot of money but she really tried and those memories are important to me and mean so much to me.
I remember one year when I was about four, we left carrots out for the Easter Bunny and when we woke up the next day there was little nibbles out of the carrot and I was all "Oh....my....god. The Easter bunny is totally real!" Hahaaha. I was a total believer after that. Memories.

Thanks for sharing your story. It is great to hear you can make special memories for your kid(s)!
I totally forgot! My mom did the carrot shaving thing once and I was all, "MOM I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS. YOU DID THIS NOT THE EASTER BUNNY." So then I questioned Santa and Tooth Fairy. Then I told my little brother who pranced around the rest of the day going, "Mommy's a fairy! Mommy's a fairy!" I guess even then I wished for more Easter and when mine was so basic compared to my friends' I had to know the truth! My poor mom.
lol, you were smarter than me.
I swear, my son is just humoring us and he really doesn't believe in this stuff. He totally didn't buy Elf on a Shelf. He was all "so... you moved it last night?" lol. Fail.
I had a beautiful pale pink metal basket that was my moms and my grandmothers before her. I always got good candy, like a chocolate bunny and Cadbury eggs and some other stuff. About half my basket was candy and the other half toys.
We always went to church and then did a nice lunch with extended family at a relatives house. We continue this tradition even now. My H is Jewish, so we spend every Easter with my family. For as long as I can remember my aunt has made a coconut cake shaped like a lamb every year. My aunt makes a main dish and we all bring sides. We've done this for over 20 years.
I'm also pretty sure that I continued to get an Easter basket until I graduated from high school lol. When I was a teen it was filled with really great stuff like jewelry (sometimes nice stuff), nail polish, hair clips, lip gloss, etc. it was awesome.
Ha! in my catholic country we ate a bunch on Thursday and fast(ed?) or at least no meat on Friday. We were supposed to mourn. Sunday we could eat meat again......Bunnies? Candy? Eggs? Nope! no no no.
We had baskets with the neon colored grass and it always contained a chocolate bunny along with jelly beans and other individual little candies.
One year my parents went all out and wrote a letter to my brother and I "from" the Easter bunny. It was set up to be a scavenger hunt to find our baskets but my dog ended up getting into everything overnight. We woke up to pastel colored tin foil and Easter grass all over the house. She had eaten it all.
My parents always made us baskets and his eggs, but I don't remember them making a big deal out of the Easter bunny.
Going to church and celebrating Jesus' resurrection was (and still is) always the focus on Easter. I like that and will probably do the same thing with our future kids.
Both DH and I are Eastern Orthodox. I grew up celebrating the secular aspects of Easter - Easter baskets, presents, egg hunts, big holiday meal - on regular Easter, and the religious aspects on orthodox Easter. We will do the same with our future kids, if we decide to recognize Easter in a religious way (which I am not sure about yet; as adults we are more universalist. I am not sure I buy the resurrection as literal and, as far as parables go, I don't love it because it has been a vehicle of hate against Jews).
Oddly, Christmas we celebrated at the same time as everyone else, with mayyyybe a trip to church if convenient on orthodox. I am all about all aspects of Christmas though.
I remember getting a LOT of candy on Easter. And my parents were divorced, so some years I got baskets at both houses (yay for parental competition). So, I feel like I've scaled back for my kids. They got sidewalk chalk, bubbles, one small toy each, a chocolate bunny, and few other candies.
Growing up, Methodist, we used the same baskets every year. We each had our own, they were nice but not fabulous. We got candy, no toys. Easter eggs were hidden around the house if it was cold/snowy/wet or outside if it was nice. Anything chocolate or candy was in your basket. We had our Easter Egg hunt on Sunday morning. After church if we sent to Sunrise services or before church if we were going to late services.
We did the same thing with our kids (now 25 and 28). We have a 32' boat though and some years we've launched earl enough that we held Easter egg hunts on the boat. We hide the real egg, not plastic so on the boat you REALLY have to remember how many you hid and where... otherwise you get a really horrible surprise a few weeks later. We never lost an egg but it twas always a big fear of mine.
We always had a big holiday meal. We had no relatives that lived near us but some years we would go the 500 miles to my grandparents (mom's side) in Illinois or a couple hours to NE Ohio to my aunt's house (dad's side) but even then, it was candy in the basket, eggs hidden, big meal, etc.
About the same as we do for DD. She has her Easter basket that Easter bunny fills with gifts. Usually a little candy, a book or two, and some outside toys (sidewalk chalk/bubbles/pool toys/etc.). We do an Easter egg hunt with the church and go to a bunny breakfast with the ILs at their club, We do church and a family dinner on Sunday.
For our 15 month old grandson, I did a gift bag decorated for Easter with a very small hollow chocolate bunny, a few candies I know he'll be able to have and his mo (DDIL) can decided what and when. I put a bag of marshmallows shaped like bunnies in, still sealed. I thought those might be less sugary than peeps and again, DDIL can dispense as she likes. There is also a bottle of bubbles for a toddler, swim trunks, matching shirt, a small basketball, soccer ball, football all in the correct size for him. He LOVES to be out so I think'll get some use. Sadly, I didn't tell DD what I got him. Last night she told me she'd picked up swimsuit, shirt, flipflops... But I'm sure he'll use it all.
For DD/DSIL and DS/DDIL I also did gift bags. They got a lot more candy. I didn't do baskets, I figure they all have enough baskets. I don't know what DDIL's parents will get him so that's another reason I kept the amount of candy down for him. He's only 15 months, he doesn't need a ton of candy. We're headed to DS/DDIL's shortly, taking everything to fix brunch for them, us and DD/DSIL. DS and DDIL will go to her parents later in the afternoon to do dinner with them.

I think my 7 year old knows it's us behind that stuff, but she is still choosing to believe the magic.
That being said, she was really disappointed that there was no egg hunt this morning. She woke up at 4:30 to try to catch the EB in action, and didn't really fall back asleep. There was no way for us to sneak past her room to hide (hard boiled, so we couldn't do it last night) eggs without her knowing.

Our baskets were candy and a stuffed bunny/animal. They were very nice, but didn't include toys and other items. I don't know if that's more something people do now, or have always done.
I did a little bit of a beach theme (sunglasses, swim trunks, bucket instead of basket) but that's mainly bc my 6 month old can't eat candy.
We pretty much got baskets similar to the $15 or less post and we were thrilled - except, every year we got those paddle ball toys with the ball hooked to the wooden paddle by a rubber band. As soon as the rubber band snapped, my mom put the paddles up in the cupboard to use to paddle our butts with when we were in trouble. I remember thinking the Easter Bunny was a real asshole for giving my parents essentially 4 (4 kids) new ass smackers every year.
Also, we had to find our baskets, so one of us was always crying thinking that the EB forgot us, and we also searched for all the eggs that we had colored the week before. Which we later ate as deviled eggs. Not sure how long they sat out before we found them all. Kinda gross in retrospect.

Basket with colored eggs, chocolate eggs, a bunny, and maybe some Reese's thing. Actually the eggs were hidden and I'd have to find them. No plastic eggs.
I had some janky basket with candy and fake grass and eggs. It was the best.
I still have my janky basket! I love it so much. I didn't use it for Henry because it's very flowery, but I might use it for my dauhter. It's also verrry plastic. lol.
