Mr. Selfridge on PBS

Anyone watching this with Jeremy Pivens and Frances O'Connor? I saw the first episode last night and I have to say that I like it. So far the characters are good. Predictable plot, but good acting.

I watched, and I really enjoyed it! I didn't like that they are doing double episodes. I don't have a DVR and it was a struggle to stay awake with no way to pause and no breaks. That said, I like it a lot so far and hope they really develop the Agnes character.

It was ok. I think my biggest problem with it is that Jeremy Piven was a terrible choice, and he's way overacting. A better actor would be able to portray how apparently bigger-than-life the real Selfridge was without coming off like he's acting in a stage play. That might be a dealbreaker for me.

But I liked it enough to give the next episode a try. The department store scenes are neat, and I like the one shop clerk (the one that was fired from the other store).

Agnes, that's the one I like.  I hope they develop her character a lot too. I'd like to see her move up into a position of authority at the store.

And yes, it was a long two hours; I took a few breaks. If they continue to have two hour episodes, I'll probably watch an hour at a time.
