I feel like I've developed a pretty good makeup routine, with the exception of my lips. All I have are glosses and Tarte's Lipsurgence, none of which last more than an hour or two. I guess I am kind of scared of lipstick because it looks so in-your-face, or something. But I am definitely not averse to trying lipstick. This time last year I was scared of eyeliner, and now it's my BFF! MMM, what are your recs?
I am no real help, but here I am responding anyway, lol. I hardly ever use anything but lip balm (Burt's Bees or Chapstick). I have tried to get used to lipstick or whatever, but I feel like I am constantly eating or drinking something - even just water - that it wears off and I have to reapply. I also don't know how I feel about lip stains. I'm afraid I'm going to look like I just downed a whole bunch of Kool-aid or similarly colored drink that is hard to remove.
I love the idea of lip stuff, but the reality doesn't work for me very well. Nude pinks are the only thing that look ok on me. And I'm addicted to lip balm. Like, I get twitchy if I don't have any nearby. I absentmindedly/compulsively seem to wipe off my lip stuff & reapply. I burn through Lip Smackers like crazy. Other brands irritate the crap out of my lips.
That said, I really love Urban Decay's Super-Saturated lip color pencils.
They're very moisturizing, super pigmented, and feel like a balm. I have the Naked color. It gives my lips a polished look without being super vibrant.
vaseline. I have issues with thinking my lips are too big, so I don't like to draw attention to them. plus I'm a smooth lip whore and have to have something on them at all time.

Chap stick. I love the idea of lip stick/gloss, but it always looks weird to me and makes my lips sticky or dry. When I do wear it, I use the Fresh lip treatments or Stila lip glazes.
I feel the same way as you re: lipstick. I try to keep my makeup pretty natural looking, and IMO full-coverage lipstick just looks like....too much. If I do wear "regular" lipstick, I'll put a coat of Burt's Bees underneath to reduce the opacity. And when the color wears off, I'll sometimes just reapply Burt's Bees instead of reapplying color every time.
But I do like the pencil that came with this month's Birchbox. It's a reddish-coral color, and it made me want to experiment with brighter / more opaque color a bit more. I may try the UD one Kore recommended.
Burberry's Lip Mists are great. I love them. Copper is a great natural color. I also like the tarte lipsurgence, I keep a few of them at work for reapplying.
And I always have some kind of chapstick around. I don't go anywhere without it.
I wear lipstick most of the time. I have very naturally pale lips (and coloring in general), and I look SO washed out without lipstick. MUFE and Chanel are my favorites, and I seem to get decent wear out of both. I like MAC lipstick, too.
I have tried any number of lip products that other people seem to love, including the Tarte Lip Surgence most recently, but I wind up frustrated with the amount of coverage and/or the wear time, and wind up going back to good, old fashioned lipstick.

Do Burberry lip mists last? I want to try them based on people on here cloving them, but I am afraid that I will wind up disappointed if they don't stick around long.

Lip mists are more sheer & balmy. The color doesn't last as long as the lipsticks. Burberry's lipsticks are called lip cover, I believe, and they're great. Rosewood is like a magical shade that somehow flatters everyone. I never would've purchased it, but I'm totally sold after trying a sample tube.

Okay, good to know. I don't want a lipstick/balm hyprid. I want lipstick. I will have to try Rosewood out sometime.

Rosewood is magical! You won't be sorry if you get it.

I always seem to get a set of some kind of lip gloss for Christmas. This year it was a 5 pack of Lancome Juicy Tubes. I'm really happy with them. They aren't sticky like some of the others I've tried, and they have enough shimmer to make my lips noticeable but not so much that it's annoying. I will buy them again if I run out before December and I get something else (unlikely).
Late to the party here, but I'll chime in. If I remember right, we have similar coloring.
I do best with a stain, like Benefit's Benetint or Stainiac from the Balm. I take a light hand to it, so it just adds a nice flush to my lips. Then I do a sheer or even clear gloss over it. Sometimes Carmex is the best choice. Done. I don't look great in lipstick.
I do have the UD Super Saturated Lip Color that Kore mentioned in Glinda - came with my palette - and I do really like it. It's a nice, natural color on me!
Even if I'm doing full-on makeup for a night out, I tend to play up my eyes more, so a fairly neutral, glossy lip looks best for me rather than anything bright or too pigmented.
I ended up ordering UD super-saturated in naked. Thanks Kore for the rec! I really love it. I will definitely keep this post bookmarked for my next purchase!

I love your necklace!
Thanks! It was a Christmas gift, and I wear it probably too frequently for how distinctive it looks.

I'm also late to the party, but Temptalia turned me on to Revlon Lip Butter in Pink Truffle. It's super creamy, with slip like a balm, and lasts decently (2-3 hours) for that type of product.
Although now I'm going to have to get Rosewood. Of course I have a mile long Sephora list two days after the 15% off ends.
