Muddled you can post happy things. I am just really done with cold weather. Unfortunately my state disagrees with me and I want to pout about it. Post all the happy things, I retract my chastisement. Were you doing something fun in the sunshine while you were getting sunburned? Was this from the hike you posted about?

@starries, I really like that pattern! It should be super easy. It feels like a dress you could just throw on and wear anywhere. I think it will be excellent.

That was kind of my thought. It's such a basic style that I could probably have a couple of them in my closet in different colors and not get tired of it. And the pattern wasn't too intimidating, but I'm still a little scared of it...

Don't be scared! The only thing that can be kind of hard is the princess seams on the bodice and if it has a zipper those can be a little temperamental. I would highly recommend using an invisible zipper because I think they are way easier to put in and I think they look a lot nicer. I have some tips on the princess seams to make them a little easier if you'd like. Also, just remember that you can always use your seam ripper if things go wrong!
captainmel What tutorial do you use for invisible zippers? Any tips? There is a special zipper foot, isn't there? Do I need one?
You need a special invisible zipper foot. I got mine at the Bernina store to go with my machine. All the invisible zippers have instructions that come in the package it is pretty easy to follow. I can also see if I can find a good tutorial on YouTube. The only thing that is kind of different with invisible zippers is that instead of partially sewing the seam your zipper is going into you leave it totally open even if the pattern instructions say to sew the seam to a certain point.
I'm very intimidated by zippers, but I need to learn. I'm making my niece a princess dress for her birthday.
Zippers can be a little frustrating but once you get the hang of it you will be so happy that you did! I will help you with the princess dress zipper. Get the invisible zipper foot, you won't regret it.
