And Daenyris (sp?) is just kicking ALL kinds of ass. I never thought they would make me feel sympathy for the Kingslayer (and yes, I haven't forgotten all the incest and pushing-kids-off-towers) but I was actually kind of rooting for him this episode. Love Tyrion, as always. It's amazing that this show routinely makes me go "oh holy crap that did NOT just happen!" and yet not in a gimmicky way. The eunich guy having his assailant under the table, the Kingslayer's hand getting lopped off...it just never ends!

In the books they try to match Cersei with someone else who I guess might just be left out of the series, because Loras is actually in the Kingsguard and can't marry (but I guess he never joined it in the show).

you are right about Jaime, I was actually feeling sorry for him.
For some reason, I have a hard time watching this show. I can't do anything else while it's on, or I'm lost. I think it may be the fact that there are so many characters and so many of them look the same. The plot that involves the girl with the dragon is the only one I can follow. I don't knowhow to spell her name...alesi? I think I kind of like the Borgias better. Do you guys like that one?

You're referring to Daenerys who is also called Khaleesi by the Dothraki. It is a pretty intense show with a ton of characters. If I've learned nothing in reading the books, it's that the author has no problem killing off characters and bringing in new ones at any given time. It does keep things interesting though when he does it. I watched the first episode of the Borgias but couldn't get into it.
Though it may have been because I had just finished with The Tudors which I thought was pretty amazing and needed a break from the genre.
I really enjoyed this episode. Ditto dr. g about feeling sympathy for the kingslayer. He did save Lady Briene from being raped. I really love Daenerys/ character. Sansa is so dumb though. I know she's a teenager, but she already fell for "Joffrey", and now she is feeling Loras? She seems so short-sighted. I was delighted when Cersai was ordered to marry him as she is "still fertile" lol. I will be interested in how Sansa and Tyrion will get married when his real love is her lady's maid.
I mentioned last week (to my H) that the Kingslayer was showing a more dynamic side. His reaction was like, "Um, no, he's still an a-hole." This week he turned to me and said, "Huh, you're right."
But as much as I loved the books, part of me hates that I know what's coming....
Eta: And you have to feel for Jamie, esp after the "confession" bit with Brienne. His character development is one of the best in the book IMO (behind Dany's).
Daenyris's storyline had been putting me to sleep.... until the past couple episodes. Finally!
Tyrion marrying Sansa - LOL. And I LOVED how smug Cersei was until her dad turned to her about Loras. HA!
Jamie - yea.... actually felt sorry for him too.
Luckily DH has read the books so he can explain certain things to me when I miss them. But one thing that helped me last season was HBO's website - seeing the names in print and seeing them next to their characters REALLY helped me a lot in knowing better who is who, how they are related to other people, etc.
Which makes me consider reading the books. Seeing this stuff in print helps me.
Dany has certainly embraced her BAMF side and I LOVE it.
I thought it was hilarious when Cersei was sitting there, all cat with the canary smirky-smirk, when Tywin (another BAMF) announced he'd be marrying Sansa...only to have the smirk wiped clean off her face when Daddy announced he was marrying her off - AGAIN.
Jaime is becoming one of my favorites and I love him and Brienne together, especially the scene in the tub which I have been WAITING for and it did not disappoint. "Call me Jaime..." indeed.
I've read books 1-4 thus far although I hadn't read Book 1 before watching season one and I am still SHOCKED that Ned lost his head but have to give props to TPTB for having the balls to go there. Which makes it exciting and yet hard for me to watch, knowing what's ahead.

Definitely shocking, but Ned's death pretty much set the whole thing in motion; I don't know how the TV series could have avoided it.
It's so good. I'm glad I haven't read the books b/c everything is a surprise and new. Like, what's with the half lizard face girl? Is she part dragon? Remember D's baby was all scaly like a dragon?
I'm side-eying the John Snow & red head story line a bit. It just seems a bit odd - plus I think I read that she wasn't a big character in the books. But we'll see where it goes.
The torture thing w/Theon Grayjoy is just weird - the guy who released him is sadistic!
Also, I was dying to wash the filth off the kingslayer. Weeks/months without a hot bath - my God, start scrubbing while you tell your story!

The girl is Shireen, Stannis' daughter (by his crazy wife with the stillborn kids in the jars). She has greyscale, a leprosy-like condition IIRC.
As for Jon Snow, the book did a better job building up his relationship with Ygritte. She is a pretty major character in the books.

Right?
I kept thinking, at least duck your head under the water or something. Such a contrast between him and Brienne, who scrubbing like there was no tomorrow.
Thanks fors the clarification, otowngirl. It's like Edward & Bella in the Twilight movies - they're in love all of a sudden. Good to know she's a major character.
I really like how they've introduced magic slowly into the story.
Oh and totally forgot to mention Stannis' wife who could give Lysa - BF of 8-year-olds - a run for the title of craziest.
And when Stannis was all guilty and talking about his cheating and she just cuts him off and is it's NBD, it's for religion, keep knocking boots with the red headed woman.

I had to look up BAMF on urban dictionary, lol. I agree Dany is definitely a BAMF.
Watching Cersei's face change once her father told her she would be marrying because she's "still fertile" was priceless!

LOL! I thought the same thing. Go under and get your hair wet and START cleaning!!! But I realize that "back then", being dirty was the norm. But it still makes my skin crawl.

LOL, you guys are BRUTAL! The man just had his arm amputated -- at least bathing was the next item on his agenda. But, I'm kidding, because I actually agree, I was dying for him to dunk under also.
So, was the burned/leprosy kid the one the Fire Witch lady "birthed" out of smoke? I thought they made some reference to her aging really quickly, and not being that guy's wife's kid. I really need to learn some names, here.

No, the "shadow child" Melisandre birthed was the "dude" who killed Renly in season one. She/he/it disappeared after that (I think?). Shireen isn't Melisandre's daughter, she's crazy wife's.
jigsy, totally hear you on that one - as I mentioned, I had read the first four books so I knew Jaime's hand was a goner but reading about it and SEEING it - CHOP! - two very different things.
Those who have read it probably know the answer, but how on earth are the Starks going to appeal to the 'bridge people' (names?) after Rob Stark welched on the agrement to marry one of the guy's hag daughters?
He didn't make it seem easy, but he was like - "Eureka! I have a plan! Let me call those folks up, bury the hatchet, and draw the Lannisters into battle." Um, major obstacle there with the dishonesty and FU to those people, ya think?

Oh, you'll see.
Ha ha, yeah this is my answer too. Oh and they are the Frey's
