I'm about to fucking lose it. I'm crying at my desk.
You know how yesterday I was all strutting my shit that my sister was graduating?
Apparently that's not happening now.
SHE GOT A FUCKING TEXT THIS MORNING SAYING THAT THE PROFESSIONAL COMMITTEE SHE DOES HER STUDENT TEACHING WITH SAYS SHE'S MISSING AN 'INGREDIENT', BUT NOT TO APPLY FOR THE PROGRAM AGAIN AND THEY'RE NOT GIVING HER CREDIT.
A MOTHERFUCKING TEXT FROM THE PROFESSIONAL COMMITTEE.
She has gotten all A's and B's. She didn't have one mark on her evaluations for her student teaching that was negative. Now she can't graduate because that blows her minor out of the water.
My sister is absolutely devastated. She's trying to set up a meeting this afternoon with an adviser to see what she can do.
Holy Shit. This is unacceptable! I work at a University and this would NEVER be communicated via text. NEVER. I'm so sorry for your sister I hope they can help her figure it all out
While starting with her advisor is a good place, unless this advisor resolves this pronto, your sister needs to go much higher. Dean or higher and ASAP. I hope she kept the text.
Oh geez, how terrible. I'm sorry Hopefully she can straighten all of this out in a meeting.
Any chance it could just be someone playing a sick joke on her?
I was wondering the same thing.
I hope that worst-case scenario, it's a sick, cruel prank and nothing more and that you royally kick the ass of whoever is behind this.
No. She called and verified with the dean's office. The only thing holding her back is the supervisor of the professional committee not passing her because of a vague "ingredient" that one lady decided that she won't specify after meeting my sister.
She's already called and gotten positive reviews from the coaches she worked with. They think it's bullshit.

Oh no!! I can't believe that they would just say "missing an ingredient" and not sit down with her and go over whatever issues they had. That's awful, I'm so sorry for your sis. That committee is a bunch of assholes.
OMG - this is like something out of the twilight zone.
So ONE person said she missed ONE thing/ingredient (WTF is that anyway?) and poof, with a stupid goddamn text, suddenly all her hard work, goes up in smoke?

This.
On my Asperger forum a mom wrote in that her son was about to graduate but failed his student teaching and was asked not to re-take it. He was notified by letter and met with people from his university.
His advising committee had a meetings with him and provided feedback around why he failed. In his case it was poor organizational and personal interaction issues.
Registrar won't do her any good, they don't handle this. She needs to talk to the advisor, and beyond that probably the Dean.
She should receive written confirmation of the issue. Make sure her mentor teacher believes that she successfully completed her student teaching. I did my student teaching and the only thing I can figure out is that she didn't turn an assignment in? I knew a few people that struggled, and they received MULTIPLE warnings and chances to fix things.
Being told that she can't graduate 2 weeks out, with no advance warning that she was missing something, or did anything wrong is completely unacceptable. If the Dean of her college won't help her, make her go to the Dean of Students. They are an advocate for students, and might be able to help resolve the issue.
Betty, I am an advisor- pm me if you have questions, and I'll see if I can help. I wish I could hug your sis right now :*(
ah, okay. i just thought because they establish the program requirements, the registrar would know what "ingredients" were required. when i got all screwed up in my major (they changed the requirements my last year and i had to get special dispensation to substitute ICELANDIC FOLKLORE for the evolution of english language course i was supposed to have taken but wasn't offered), the registrar got involved.
I hope the dean's office rips the "professional committee" a new bung hole.
I agree. This is so unprofessional it's ridiculous. You can't deny credit because of a vague "ingredient", and then inform them via text. I hope your sister gets some support and resolution this afternoon.
Oh geez, how terrible. I'm sorry Hopefully she can straighten all of this out in a meeting.

This was my thought, too. SURELY they wouldn't really pull this shit? I hope something works out because this is fucking nuts.
ETA: Shit, I just read the other responses. FUCK. This is unbelievable, and their handling of the situation is so incredibly infuriating. A text??? Missing ingredient???
