What did you guys think? I thought it was good but was sad Daenerys wasn't in this episode. Was disappointed they didn't show the convo between Tyrion and Sansa (and the lady's maid/his gf).
I have 2 questions:
1. Why was Jon Snow and crew climbing that wall of ice? To get to the wall and night watch towers? I just wonder why they didn't have to climb the wall to get to the other side in the first place. I am really confused about what they are doing and have been trying to read background online but still confused..lol.
re: Milisandre - I knew she was coming for him when she told Stannis that he's not the only one out there with the king's blood. I have a feeling things do not end well for Gendry.
re: the torture guy. I couldn't tell if he was lying about his backstory (and his brother being killed by the Kingslayer). My BIL read the books and said the torture scenes were hard to read, way worse than the show. But it looks like there's more to come (As DH said yesterday, I hope this doesn't become the Saw movies)
I wonder what the backstory is on Shea. She was really shady when she met Tyrion , and now she just seems like one of the bunch and totally trustworthy. A piece of me thinks there's a conspiracy or something.

Also, Joffrey is a sick fvck.
I can't believe what Joffrey did to that Ros! I knew something must have happened to her after Littlefinger had that conversation with Varys but that was really sick. I feel bad for her because last season she is the one that took that beating when Cersei thought Ros was the one involved in a relationship with Tyrion, when in fact it was Shea.
I'm confused too about who is torturing Theon. I wonder where his sister is?
I liked how Tyrion was trying to be delicate delivering the news to Sansa and Shea and wished they had shown the whole conversation too.
I don't think Shea is involved in any conspiracy against Tyrion. It seems like she and Tyrion have genuine feelings for each other and she was real danger of being killed for being involved with him, and still is. However, now that he will be marrying Sansa, things may change. Although, since Shea is Sansa's hand maiden they now have a good cover to be around each other.
Whoa, I missed something! Joffrey hurt Ros? What happened? I thought I watched the whole episode. Apparently, I didn't!
In exchange for Ros becoming one of Varys' "little birds" (which I think happened because of LF's role in killing Robert's bastards, including the baby daughter of one of Ros' fellow prostitutes), LF arranged for her to become target practice for Joffrey's new toy aka cross-bow.
Loved the Olenna/Tywin scene - I think Round I went to Tywin but we'll see who gets the last laugh.
Poor Gendry - gets sold again.
I still hate Theon but it's getting harder to hate him. That is one twisted little punk who is holding him hostage - I won't spoil for those who don't know who he is.
I, too, would have liked to have seen a more drawn-out Tyrion tells Sansa surprise, I'm your new fiancee scene as well.
Loved the Jaime/Brienne scene at dinner - they clean up nicely although the shallow side of me would like to see Jaime with his hair a bit shorter and more clean-shaven. When Brienne reached for her knife and Jaime quietly put his hand on hers - loved it.
Bran/company - yawn...
The Wall - yawn, except for Ygritte nearly falls to her death and she/Jon stop to kiss and admire the scenery.
This was in last nights episode? I cannot believe I missed that. I need to watch it again!
Yeah, it was towards the very end and it was a very quick scene showing Joffrey sitting with his cross-bow and then the camera pans to Ros tied up with several arrows in her, apparently dead.

2. Do we know who is torturing Theon?
I could be wrong, but I think the reason Jon Snow didn't have to climb the wall to get in the first time was because he crossed to the other side (north of the north wall) with the Night's Watch, which he was part of and who controls and protects the wall and they can control the gate/door to the other side. So he and the other Night's Watchmen were able to walk through the gate to get to the other side.
Now he has joined up with the Wildings who are trying to attack the Night's Watch and cross beyond the wall. So they had to climb the wall to try and sneak attack the Night's Watch. I think it was in the last episode that Jon told the Wildings where the weakest guarded area of the wall is, which is where they climbed up.
It does get confusing because I think he only joined up with the Wildings to save himself and has tried to convince them that he has "defected" from the Night's Watch because they would have killed him otherwise, but I think the Leader sees him as valuable. However, he seems to be falling for Ygritte and has promised not to betray her. So it should be interesting to see how it all plays out.

the kid blacksmith is one of Robert's kids?? woahhh I totally missed that.

Yup - his mom was a prostitute. Remember when he was on the way to the wall, and the crew got attacked by guys from King's Landing? They were looking for Gendry because they knew he was the son of Robert. The Stark girl said another boy with Gendry's helmet was Gendry.
Dh and I both looked at each other during this last episode -- when John Snow & redhead reached the top of the wall we exclaimed "The Cliffs of Insantiy!" (ala Princess Bride)

I agree, I won't spoil who is torturing Theon and in the books you don't know much about what happened to him (he doesn't appear in the books for awhile) so I am liking that the show is filling in what possibily happened to him. You just know the end results of the torture (the flaying of the skin, etc).
I loved the Oleanna/Tywin exchange. Basically I love every scene that Oleanna is in.
They are making Joffrey out to be much sicker/twisted in the show than the books.
