with their 2 year old. At 9:51 at night. He's shrieking gleefully. I keep thinking it's one of the kids, calling from upstairs. But no, it's just the hot tubbin' 2 year old from next door.

I don't get people that let their kids stay up this late.
And don't give me the "he's just not tired"!
Yes, because all parents work M-F 8 to 5.
This is one of the mommy war topics that gets under my skin. H worked crazy hours most of A's toddler years. He would never see her if she was in bed "early."
It's not a matter of "letting" it's a matter of her being awake.
And some people have weird hours, so their kids do too (this is not us, our kid just hates us).

Agree.
OP reminds me of last summer when H insisted on doing 'baths' in the pool on our days off. It was around 9 pm just when it was getting dark out, I can only imagine what the neighbors thought, lol.
H and I work from 3 pm to 11 pm. We are fortunate enough to have my mom provide child care in our home. Still, we could never get the babies on a regular schedule. They just will not sleep till we get home. Once we gave in, we were all happier and more rested.
I get you - my 10 week old will sleep longer periods than my 2 yr old. He just doesn't sleep. We have done clinics, sleep methods - the works. I would love to do a quick night time route and tuck him in. It ain't happening.
Hang in there. Mine was the same way and now at four we say goodnight and he gets in bed and sleeps. It took us the full 4 years to get there.

My nephew went to bed at 7:30pm and got up at 5am. It works well for their daycare schedule, but when we have kids, I sure hope they go to sleep (and especially wake up) 2-3 hours later than that. Because waking up early isn't my idea of a good time, and since it's also not required for my job (or DH's), I don't "get" why I should choose to do it.
