I am so upset. It stormed all night and all day, complete with thunder and lightening, but the weather was forecasted to clear up by start time. (And it was clear by then.)
Start time was 7 a.m. and I was up at 4:20. By 5:20, there were no emails or updates to the website, so I sent an email to the race director and received an automatic response that said the race would go on, rain or shine but that due to unforeseen circumstances, the race could be cancelled.
So we got the girls up at 5:20 and drove down 30 minutes to packet pickup. Picked up my shirt and bib and noticed it was really empty but I saw a guy eating a banana with his race number on. I stood there for a minute then went back to the pick up table to ask if the race had been postponed. Only then was I even told it was cancelled.
I'm not irate because the race was cancelled because it was storming an awful lot, but I'm furious at the lack of communication. It was obvious they had known for some time that they were going to be cancelling the race but never bothered to tell anyone. The website still hasn't been updated and there was no facebook page to ask.
Anyway, the bright side was that I got to work packet pickup today for my tri tomorrow which was a lot of fun and I got paid in 30 Luna bars, so that was a good outcome

Wow, that's really poor form on the part of the race organizers. My first half marathon was cancelled at 4:30 am the day of the race, but I had two email messages and a text from the organizers telling me so. I'm glad you were able to find something else to enjoy about the day!
