I thought Marshall's judge storyline came out of left field and was dumb (although the back-and-forth with the guy on the phone was funny), but everything else was ok.
The locket thing is still stupid though (Ted didn't open a pencil case for five whole years?).
So the whole last season takes place over the course of one week, I guess?

I'm confused though because didn't Ted find the yellow umbrella at the St. Patrick's Day party? How does she have it now? Maybe she's a yellow umbrella hoarder.

The Mother shared an apartment with Cindy, a girl from Columbia that Ted briefly dated (Cindy reappeared earlier this season ... she's married to a woman, they have a baby, and they saw Ted on the subway. He explained that the original wedding band had cancelled, so Cindy suggested her former roommate's band, and that's how The Mother winds up at Barney and Robin's wedding).
Ted and Cindy were dating a few seasons ago. Ted went to visit her and it was raining so he took the yellow umbrella. They got in an argument and he left without taking the umbrella, so The Mother got it back.
Can I also add that this must be one hell of an umbrella, if it's survived this whole series? (And even past 2013, since there's a future shot of Ted holding his baby girl with the umbrella in the background.) All of my umbrellas get turned inside-out in the wind within a year, lol.

Oh I forgot about that! I knew there had to be some explanation.

Marshall's judgeship seems to be way out of left field. He's been an attorney for what, 5 years now? And his job's haven't exactly been highly prestigious up to this point, so I just felt it was too contrived for him to get such a wonderful opportunity with seemingly low qualifications.
The whole Ted and Robin thing is just so annoying. Robin and Barney seemed a lot more in sync this episode, and I loved their kiss leaving the apartment.
I feel terrible saying that the casting of the mother was a bit of a let down, but it was.
I'm a little late on my response but I feel like this whole season was such a waste of time. Next better REALLY be the final season because I'm going to be so annoyed if they do this again. I was also disappointed on the mother choice.
I agree on the unlikeliness of Marshall becoming a judge. I know it's TV, but this is just getting more and more far-fetched.
