What if you could buy a 2.5 story, 6 bedroom, 1 bathroom home, 2016sq ft, on 0.44 acres of land in the middle of no where for $14,000. Would you do it?
What if it had no heat? What if it hadn't been lived in, in 13 years? What if it needed a ton of work? What if you could live somewhere else while you had it fixed up, would that change your answer?
I would love this home. We already live in the area and it's not too far from the next local town (our towns are like, a block big) but it's set off in the woods kind of.
I cannot afford to fix this home up in any timely fashion, but if it was in decent shape, I'd consider it. I've always dreamed of a huge house.
It was built in 1900.
I kind of want to go check it out, just because I love giant old homes.

Walkability is huge for us, so it would depend if the middle of nowhere meant out on farmland where it meant our closest neighbor was five miles away and a half hour drive to the closest store or restaurant (no) or just a small town an hour away from the closest major city (possibly).
Because for 14k... I could probably deal with some renovations.
It would need a furnace and probably all the duct work, plus a/c and such. The foundation is stone with a full basement (probably dirt floor). I'm not sure if it has water hooked up indoors but it does have an outside pump, however, a lot of old homes have them but are hooked up for water. The siding would need re-done, it looks just to be painted wood, and I'm sure a new roof.
There aren't any photos of the inside of the house. Which is why I'm SO curious about seeing the inside. If there were pictures, I probably wouldn't be as interested.
This home would 100% be a "you need to already have a home while you deal with this one" type of thing.
Nursewife, move down the road from me and build. There is 26 acres 1/4 mile down for 92,000. Ha
I would kill for that! Any property with land here is a fortune. I so want to raise the kids in the country so they can have a horse, goats, sheep and bunnies. Lots of room to run around.

I just realized the small town lots here are that much. I hate that land is so agricultural around here. It's getting impossible to get a country place that isn't over 1 million for 100 acres.
Yes. I could buy it with cash (assuming I sold my current place) and I'm far too Dutch to pass up a deal like that!
That being said, I would still get an inspection and if it was in tear down condition I would probably pass. I'm not that keen on living in the middle of nowhere unless its a real steal of a deal.
I live in a three bedroom slightly larger than that. If I were to make it a six bedroom with one bath, I'd be living in a house of small bedrooms with a kitchen and tiny living room.
My first thought was how are there 6 bedrooms in 2000 sq ft?? I vote no. If it hasn't been lived in for 13 years it probably needs so much work and has a lot of hidden damage.
Definitely not, mostly because I enjoy city life too much - walking places, lots to do, etc.
But I can imagine how redoing an old house in the country would be a fun adventure. And with 6 bedrooms, you could do fun stuff like a gym room, an office... ooh, a library! Haha.
I would definitely go look before getting your hopes up. For $14,000, it might be totally covered in black mold or piles of hoarder trash or something.
I'm sure it's a total teardown, so you'd really just be buying the land. So if you like the lot and want to build, then yes. Otherwise, no. I'm sure the cost to renovate would far exceed the amount you could sell it for once renovated.
