How would one know if they had a heart condition like this? Is it something that would show up in a regular physical, or is there something specific to ask for?
I actually have no idea- my husbands heart problems were known to his family and him- but they kept me in the dark. My sister's husband I think only went to the doctor when he was sick or when he tore his ACL. We are taking my nephew in to find out if he has it, what we need to look for and all that jazz, as soon we get the official report with the exact language. I should know more then about what they need to do to find out. Thanks everyone. Its exhausting. We are all still in shock and my sister has now started staying at her sister in laws house which is too far for me to drive between, and my mom had a horrible night leaving me to not want to leave her alone at all. My nephew went back to school today, so hopefully he does ok. I plan to take him the teddy bear my 5th grade class gave me when my dad died. Hopefully it helps him a little.
I know nothing about your sister's DH's condition, but my DH had a freak heart thing found on an EKG. He was getting a pre-employment physical, and the EKG showed him actively having a massive heart attack..... cue everyone freaking out..... a cardiologist and thousands of dollars later, he has a freak electrical defect that makes his EKG appear like a heart attack, but actually he is fine (although at higher risk for a heart attack, it is not massively higher). So these things can sometimes be picked up in the strangest ways... or you could never have an EKG (DH never had had one bc he has never had any problems!) and never know.
Thanks everyone. I appreciate and I'm sure my sister and nephew do. As if we didn't have more to add to- I had to put my 18 year old cat to sleep last night. And the women who has been staying with my mom since tues was told by her doctor she couldn't do it anymore. So I had to scramble to find someone until home health care calls and does the set up interview.
