I like cream cheese on bagels (in small amounts) but cannot tolerate it anywhere else, especially in sushi. I think it's the biting into it that weirds me out.
As far as recommendations, I'm not much help.
If you're starting out slowly with new rolls, add one new ingredient at a time, so you can see if you like it. Try a roll with tempura shrimp, maybe, some scallion, etc, then you can see what's out there.

Unagi, spider roll, chopped scallop rolls are all my favourite. My absolute favourite is toro nigiri and tobiko nigiri. I love feeling the little eggs pop, and tuna belly is always delicious.

I dont think I could ever pick a favorite- I love so much of it! I tend to love simpler rolls where you can really taste the fish,but one of the places I like has a roll that DH and I both love, but it's more complex. It's called the White Ninja: spicy tuna, asparagus & avocado wrapped in white tuna garnished with tobiko & sesame chili oil.
I´d rather just order the sashimi plate, with lots and lots of tuna and salmon. But I do really like unagi.
Damn you, now I really want sushi.
Sashimi is probably my favorite food. I like it all, except sea urchin.
DH and I will get the giganto sushi boat thingy and spend way too much money and it´s always worth every dime. Especially here where we are right on the ocean and we can see them bringing in fresh fish every day.
You could try real sushi or sashimi instead of eating rolls.
Rolls will vary from restaurant to restaurant anyway.
And, of course this is true
I like rolls just fine, but there's nothing like some really amazing nigiri (which I like better than sashimi). Ask for: Hamachi Toro, Mutsu (only eat one or two pieces of this- it's DELICIOUS, but high in fish oil that can upset your stomach if you eat too much), Shake Toro, Suzuki and Unagi.

When I'm not sure what I want, I simply just get the chef's special plate. It usually has a mix of different nigiri and rolls, with nary a spot of cream cheese or fruit in sight. Never been led wrong.
