So I had an IUD put in this morning. I drove myself home and the pain has gotten consistently worse since then. I generally have a very high pain tolerance (I set my own broken toes...) I can't even stand up right now. What is this supposed to be like? Am I being a drama queen?
My doctor never called me back. My stomach was swollen/distended and I had giant red splotchies all over the area. After lots of tests and a shot in my butt they told me most things were normal and to follow up with the gyno.

I just called, hopefully they will get back to me soon. Dr Google indicates that this is not totally normal. Most people said Tylenol and a heat pack few hours fixed it all and that isn't doing shit for me.

Um, I took some nerve numbing pills too. They haven't helped either. Wine sounds amazing but I am going to wait until the doctor calls me back. Hurry up doctor!

DL, I took some advil and some Tylenol. My doctor still hasn't called me back which is making me annoyed.
The pain has decreased a little bit but I don't know if that is because it is getting better or because I took some of my extra perscription lnerve numbing pills.

It definitely shouldn't be that painful, and you're not a wimp! There's a big difference between "uncomfortable" and "pain that prevents you from standing." I hope your doc gets back to you quickly!

It is 7:30 here so I am guessing I am not going to hear from my doctor tonight. Uggggg.. The pain is not quite as bad which is making me feel a little more comfortable. I am trying to decide if it is a legitimate instance trip or not... I generally am a "walk it off" type when it comes to pain. I think I am going to try and do some gentle stretching. Also the neurontin has fully kicked in and I can't feel my face or my hands...

I just woke up! I am following up with the gyno right now. I am pretty mad that they never called me back yesterday. I am feeling a lot better this morning but still pretty sore. The ER doctor offered to just pull the mirena out but he didn't see an emergency reason to so he thought I would want to wait and see what the gyno said.
Here's hoping you have more answers soon! Did they do an ultrasound to make sure it hadn't punctured anything, and is in place? It almost sounds like an allergic reaction or something.
I've had two IUDs inserted, and I'd say both times it felt like very intense cramps for at least the first day, but a lot better by the second day.

smock, they did a lot of ultrasounds, there were more people in my hello kitty yesterday than there have ever been in my life. Literally. They said the placement looked normal and hadn't punctured anything. They also did a pee test for infections, which could still be a problem because the infection could still be developing but the test was normal.
The gyno was in with a patient so hopefully they will call me soon.

So the doctor just called me back, they are thinking my ute is like "what the fuck is this thing in here?!?!" And that it is just freaking out, a lot of ibuprofen and a lot of attentive watching are in my future.

I didn't yell but I was like, uhhh... I tried to call you, I was freaking the fuck out, and they were like.. oh yeah, we saw that you called yesterday. I was pretty upset and short with the PA when she called me. I am going to talk to my doctor about it when I have a checkup in a few weeks. The ER doc was really mad for me.
Also, the worst part is that my ute is super swollen so it actually looks like I have a little parasite growing in there! I am still in my pajamas but when I get dressed I am going to have to pick my outfit wisely.
I'm really sorry you had to go through that. I'd be flipping my shit if my body was physically changed by something like that....even if it only required some monitoring and tylenol for a few days to fix. That is scary stuff.

My actually gyno called me today instead of the physicians assistant. He was pretty upset on my behalf and felt susuper bad that they hadn't gotten back to me sooner. He said my swelling was really abnormal but as long as my pain/placement was OK he wasn't too worried. He also said I could go to his office any time I wanted to be seen and he would find a way to see me ASAP. I don't think I will fire him now.
