Anyway I told myself to stop going there. Especially to STOP reading the threads about babies on planes. I am oblivious to it! I said. But I have to admit they have gotten to me. They have freaked me out. I am worried about my upcoming trip to italy in three weeks.
Obviously it's way too late AND we don't have a spare $1200 floating around for a ticket for her anyway so I just need to suck it up and deal.
Reassure me! How likely is this "killer turbulence" they speak of? How will I live with myself if I "turn my baby into my airbag" during a runway accident?! aaaahhhhhhh. I'm afraid to google statistics. But I feel like it is SO unlikely. I mean you hear about car crashes all the time. I've never heard of a baby getting killed or even hurt on a plane. I mean, I've heard of EVERYBODY dying on a plane obviously but in those incidents no carseat will help.
aaaaahhhhhh. I really need to leave that group.
I BUCKLE THE CHEST CLIP IN THE APPROPRIATE PLACE! WHY ISN'T THAT ENOUGH!!!!!!
with this and the fact I don't have my dog crated in the car I just am about the worst parent in the world.

How do you live with yourself?
I'm sure it'll be fine. Those ladies are cray-cray. And by not having Matilda strapped down, you're allowing her to flourish in life. Same goes for the dog. Statistically, dogs who are caged in the car have more drug problems later in life. They join gangs and disrespect the elderly.
But all they ask is that I just don't go to see my family! Is that so much to ask?!
*these were exact words/exact request. To simply NOT travel if you can't afford all the seats. Also, why not just take a train! Point me to the train that will take me across the Atlantic bitches!
H works for the fire department at a major international airport. He has never responded to any incidents like those. Ever. In 5 years. He says nothing like that has happened since the 80s at the latest. CSFTL is cray cray. You guys will be fine.

Hehehehe.
But yeah, the likelihood of something happening on a plane is very low, much much much lower than in a car.

I was freaking out last year before we flew with Evan too. We were luckily that the flights were not full so we got an empty seat each time, but you know what... he spent majority of the time on my and DH's laps anyway. We weren't the only ones. There were at least two or three other lap babies in the same situation.

When I flew at christmas I got an empty seat. But, I mean I wasn't carrying around a carseat with me so when she was on it, it was on a boppy! Hardly safe! I still hope we have a free seat this time around because travelling with a baby = a lot of crap and economy seats != a lot of space
They also say if you check a carseat you then have to consider it crashed and buy a new one. Is this crazy?! I've never checked a carseat, like to travel light. But Now I'm assuming that renting a carseat there would also be not safe then?!
TBH I'm only getting a seat for Laney for our London trip because I don't want to hold her for 10hours (at 21months old) and I'm not paying!! Otherwise, no way I would pay $1200 if I didn't have too. Also, I flew in January with her and she was fine- no turbulence.

Nope, they don't recommend renting one either!
But I don't trust the luggage people with a carseat. I would rather gate check it.

Ok. Stop reading their crazy ass posts. You can check a car seat. Or rent one. It'll be fine.

I'd check the carseat before renting one. Also, gate check it. It is slightly safer, just don't ask CSFTL- they still say no to that! Another plus with gate checking is that if there is an open seat you can ask and they will let babies have it if you have your carseat. For our flight in January we got a seat one way but not the other

If it were such a regular occurrence with the babies flying about the cabin in turbulence, there would be rules and restrictions and the whole 9. Try not to worry. If you strap her on your lap with the thing they give you (but usually don't know how it works) then she won't fly while flying. Honestly, unless you're all going down, I doubt anything will happen to her because of turbulence.
I make no promises about dropping things from the overhead while you put things away, though, but then a car seat won't help. Maybe a helmet? Bubble wrap?
The other day someone said their husband dropped the seat a little too hard on the ground and she was like oh I guess it's a crashed seat then, have to buy a new one. WTF?!! These people obviously have too much money. haha
I want to make a post asking for statistics on this!
Well I asked the other day if a bus was statistically safer than a plane and the tech said "that I do not know". Then that was it. Back to YOU HAVE TO BUY THEM A PLANE SEAT but hey if you need to take the bus (Aka death box) that's cool.
I mean, I don't think buses are death boxes haha but it HAS To be statistically more likely a baby would be hurt riding in a bus than riding in a plane?!

This! I've avoided your group of crazies, but we gate checked car seats both ways, both times we flew cross-country with G. I've heard (real life) stories of rental car seats being the wrong type/expired/super dirty/broken straps so I avoid those. Plus we've successfully attached a car seat to our rolling bag and used it as a "stroller" using the Traveling Toddler car seat accessory from Amazon (www.amazon.com/Traveling-Toddler-Seat-Travel-Accessory/dp/B000JHN3AS). It takes a minute to get setup properly anytime you have to take it apart (airport security) but makes you feel like a travel ninja.
Faevantastic seriously though, I was not planning to but now I'm thinking maybe I will. Chances are with euros and their lax carseat rules I won't even be able to get one to RF her in so maybe best to bring my own after all.
She still have some room in her snugride 32 bucket seat which would be easier to transport around and could just be installed in the rental car with a belt and no base? Or I guess we could bring a base one as well.

Does this device you have accommodate all seats?
That wasn't just ANY baby... That was Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams' baby!
You should be able to install the bucket seat using seatbelt. The cart thingy is universal. It's called Go go Kidz Travelmate. If you're interested, I'll bring it on Sunday. I won't need it til the end of Oct.
There's this wonderful thing they infented a few years back called RADAR. It's a wonderful invention that lets them see areas where there will be heavy turbulance and *gasp* they can fly around it! ZOMG groundbreaking!
Seriously though, incidents of actual problems with plains that result in injuries are few and far between. You are in more danger on the bus or in a taxi in NYC than you are in an airplane.
Insisting on a seat on a plane for LO but not on a bus (or in a cab) is just about the stupidest thing I have ever heard.
