My almost 15 year-old golden retriever has eaten three bean bag chairs, 2 christmas wreaths, her own poop, the fringe of an oriental rug, a George Washington middle school project, several glasses of beer, brownies, lots of socks, and a dead squirrel.
She's seen some shit, and she's still alive and kickin' (when her arthritis permits).

When I was in Girl Scouts doing the evil cookie drive, my mom happened to be the troop leader. We had a 165 pound Rottweiler. One day we came home, after the cookies were delivered, to find that he had eaten at least 4 boxes of Thin Mints, 3 boxes of Samoas, and a slew of other cookie boxes. He labored for life that night, but went on to be fine to the ripe age of 13.

I think he'll be okay.
My aunt's black lab once ate an entire bag of Snickers minis that was supposed to be for trick or treaters.
When they got home they found all these pieces from the bag all over the place and the dog was doing that nervous grin that dogs do when they've been naughty.
It's the baking chocolate/dark chocolate that is the really bad stuff - milk chocolate isn't great or anything, but in small amounts won't hurt anything
I don't know of any dog that was seriously harmed by chocolate other than stomach upset type symptoms. Does anyone know anyone that the dog actually got seriously ill - I've just never heard of it.
My dog ate an entire box of Tagalongs, and he's still alive. Though, I will admit that he may have been at more risk from me coming home and finding all of my Tagalongs gone than he was from the chocolate.

probably not.
My boys ate 1/2 a bag of butterfinger easter eggs - foil and all - and weren't even sick. Later they ate about 12 Lindt extra dark chocolate truffle candies (70% cacao) and were also fine. Then again, my boys are 75lbs each.
Weight matters, so does quality of chocolate. Reeses = yummm but not high quality .
My family dog loved to get into chocolate. He would eat like a bag full of dark chocolates and weighed like 11 lbs. we didn't even bother calling the vet anymore, just gave him hydrogen peroxide to make him puke. Milk chocolate in small (or even big) quantities is fine.
