In an attempt to fill the void of Man Men, GoT, and other regular network programming, we're watching Under the Dome.
Once I get past that certain quality of all Stephen King made-for-tv projects (cheaply made, melodramatic, heavy on explanations, etc.), it held my interest for an hour last night. I hope The Simpsons movie didn't spoil too much of it for me
Anyone else watching? I hope there's a good twist/story coming. The boyfriend kid is suuuper creepy.
I watched the premier and I'm intrigued. I'm not sure if it's because the premise sounds interesting or if it's because I don't have anything better to watch right now.

I watched the first episode and have the next taped. I started (but admit to not finishing) the book. They are packing so much in the first episode it was hard to keep it all straight. I'll keep watching for a bit more to see how it pans out...

So I read the book (and liked it) but I have read these how will be pretty different than the book becuase the book was too dark.
I am realizing though that I forgot a LOT from the book. I read it when DS was an itty bitty newborn and I think the sleep deprivation made me create a different book in my head ha ha
I'm an episode behind, but this show is driving me BSC. The best part of SK is that he develops these super awesome amazing characters, and what we have on TV are these flat annoying people who aren't at all who they were in the book. Not to mention the addition of random characters, and the removal of others (no Brenda!?).
I'm kind of only hanging in there because I want to see what they do to change the ending. I tend to hope that TV/movie adaptations make his endings better, but I'm dubious about that being the case here.

I just started watching this the other day, and I like it so far (never did read the book) But my biggest takeaway from it is that I can't believe Duke is Jeff Fahey. The same guy who played Lawnmower Man! I did NOT recognize him AT ALL!!!
OMG, why am I still watching this monstrosity. All of the characters are wrong and all the additional random plotlines are pissing me off. WTF is going on! Auuuggggghhhhh!!!!

SK addressed this on his website. It's basically a different story altogether playing off the same premise. An alternate version, if you will. I felt much better about the whole thing after reading his statement. You should google it.

Eh, I just found and read his statement, but it doesn't make me feel better.
The characters in the novel were well developed and interesting, and the characters in the show are falling flat for me. I've said before that SK tends to have lackluster endings, and I totally expected that the ending would be totally re-worked. But I have a really hard time buying into the premise if they didn't change things it would "spoil the fun." It's fun to see movie/TV adaptations of books (hello Hunger Games!) and knowing the ending doesn't make it less fun. Having a completely different story line makes it less fun because I'm expecting the story I read, and that's not what I'm getting. If they were going to change everything they should have actually changed *everything.* Different character names, different town, really mix it up and make it a new story instead of a bastardization of the original story. Hell, even make it be "Outside the Dome" and have the whole story be about the military and the people having to deal with the problem from the outside.
I have been watching it but I didnt know it was a SK book. I liked the Langoliers movie so I may like this. I just wonder how they are going to end it. They can't live under the dome for too long... food? water? medicine?

OMG I'm so with you. It's so far removed from the book that I just can't watch it. I wish I could separate them but I can't. I get too annoyed.
I haven't read the book but I figure they are under a dome with limited medical supplies and no outside water. They can't last too long so SOMETHING is going to happen. I just have to watch and see what.

I've been interested in this show. I didn't read the book. The girl that plays Norrie bugs me. Her forehead takes up half her face. But I like the redhead, she's kind of pretty. Though it seems weird that they haven't run out of supplies yet.

That does not seem weird to me. Minus water (wasn't there a water supply in the town anyway) I could easily feed my family for 8 weeks on the food in my pantry.
I am/was more concrened about them runnign out of medicine even before what happened last episode. Being vague on purpose to prevent giving a spoiler.
